Day 1 - Phuket
Back to the Island
Woke up at about 8:30am this morning and got our ever increasing suitcases packed and ready to go.
Our taxi was due to pick us up at 9:30am, so we gave Colin a phone just before we were due to leave to make sure he was ready. He had slept in and hadn't even started packing his case.We were going to be cutting it fine as it was so I had to help him ram everything into his case while he got ready.
We finally got into the taxi at 10:15am and made our way to Kuala Lumpur airport.Colin was in his own wee world and didn't provide much response to any questions J
We got through security and immigration quick enough and made our way to the departure lounge. Our flight was delayed by 15minutes so it worked out pretty well.
The weather was good outside and luckily it was a smooth flight the whole way.It only took just over an hour before we had reached Phuket International Airport and destination 4 of our world adventure.
After getting through immigration and collecting our bags we made our way to the taxi rank where we were pounced upon by many companies trying to get us to use their taxi company. After wandering about aimlessly trying to work out who to go with, we ended up choosing a mini bus service. We thought we had the wee bus to ourselves, however, it turned out they had to wait until the bus was full and ended up sitting outside the airport waiting for new flights to come in.
An hour had passed since we left the airport before we finally moved only for them to stop off at a sales office 20 minutes down the road, trying to sell you tours.Another 15 minutes past before we were moving again.
The journey took just over an hour to get to Patong Beach where the first drop-offs were made.It was torrential rain and not a good start to Thailand. We were the last drop off and staying on Kata Beach, which is about 15 minutes away from Patong.
Upon entering Kata Beach, the weather was perfect. We checked in at the hotel and everything looked lovely. The receptionist told us that it had been raining in Patong all day, however, Kata was perfect weather with the exception of a small shower earlier in the day.
We got to our room, unpacked our cases then had the rest of the afternoon by the swimming pool.
At last a place to relax from city life......
At dinner time, we went to a nicerestaurant in Karon Beach called Two Chefs, which we had been to last year. The food was better than we remembered and well worth the visit.
After we had let the 3 course meal settle, we went next door to Fashion World tailors, where I got my suits and coat made last year.It was the same wee man working there and remembered us soon as we approached.
We laid down the law early and told him that we were only willing to pay the same price as last year.He responded by saying "always cheap price for you big boss".The usual sales pitch from these chaps.
Myself and Colin got measured up for a new suit and a new winter coat.Colin got a bit carried away and ordered up another suit and 5 shirts into the bargain.Everything was looking good until he pulled the magic calculator out and punched in some ridiculous figures. He was proving a tough cookie to bargain with and was claiming that he had never sold a suit for the price I paid last year.I remembered him writing all my details in his stock book last year so got him to go through that and sure enough there I was in the book for an order back in September 2009 J
His sales pitch had collapsed and he ended up accepting that would be the price we paid again this year.Nearly 4 times lower than the price he had keyed in earlier J
