Thailand is a country which I've been to before, but I've never experienced this end of Thailand before. Bangkok is Thailand's version of London. Its a very western city and completely different to my previous experiences of Thailand (Phuket).
In Bangkok you can find most things and it's really the city that never sleeps (or at least we thought so until we were stuck trying to find a club at 2am). It's filled with stunning temples, a variety of food options and great shopping opportunities.
Just three (or more) hours away is the island of Koh Samet where you can relax on calm beaches-as long as you don't mind some woman grabbing your feet and telling you that you need a foot scrub (they were selling the service and not just abusing people on the beach).
Lots of food is cooked out on the street, you can get bags of sliced fresh fruit on your doorstep or some cooked meat. The downside of this is that everywhere you go is the smell of meat cooking, which some people might enjoy but the stench made me consider becoming a vegetarian!
In Thailand you also get the cab drivers trying to charge you triple for a tiny journey, but can then take a 3 hour mini bus journey for £4!
I wish we'd had time to see the north and complete the jungle treks we were planning on doing, but I think a beach break was needed more in the middle of our holiday!!
Ah well, next time...
