After our shower at Humayuns Tombs we ventured outside the grounds to catch a tuktuk. We meet a friendly man who offers us a good price for his tuktuk. Then directs us to his CAR. Obviously alarm bells start ringing, but this turns out to be his 'rainy car'-something he drives when the weather is bad. Seeing as the weather was bad, and my checks for a taxi sign on the car went over his head, we climbed in.
First he drove us to India Gate where lots of random men tried to sell us things. We stood for about a whole minute, looking upwards, waiting for a colourful plastic thing to return back to earth-before giving up and walking off!
India gate is a huge photo opportunity, but we were tired and hungry and so snapped a few pictures before returning to the car.
We then requested Connaughts Place, thinking it was some big food mall...like the suggestion in the guidebooks. Obviously Delhi and the UK have received differing memos on what a 'food centre' should look like.
Nevertheless we found a Mediterranean restaurant which served beer and so we immediately felt at home. After several discussions over what we could and couldn't eat (salads were a huge NO) we decided on pasta. 'When in India...try the pasta...' Said no one ever. However it was yummy and went well with the beer.
Our 'lemonades' were a slightly different story. At a guess i'd say it was sparkling water with lemons squeezed into it... Nothing like what we're used to and then of course the fear of what it could do to us stopped us from consuming more than a sip...
After all of this we were practically asleep on the table and so hailed a tuktuk for our return journey home. Which, if you've ever been in a tuktuk, is the same as considering hurling yourself into the path of le Tour de France.
