This afternoon we went to the Cu Chi tunnels, 75 km from Saigon. The tunnels were a strong point for the Vietcong, and was surrounded by American bases. Despite heavy bombing by the Americans tunnels served as a major stronghold and consisted of over 250 km of tunnels. Tonight we catch the train to Hue, the trip will take 20 hours, so it's good we have sleeping berths.

Another day in Saigon and this morning I went to see the War Museum. The museum focuses on the impact of war on the Vietnamese people and the aftermath, especially Agent Orange. One of the displays includes preserved, deformed foetuses due to the chemicals. There were also lots of US weapons and machines used in the war. I am in Saigon, and after a long rest, went out to look at the city. We are here for three days. This morning I visited the museum and saw the water puppet show. After a walk to the Presidential Palace, we had lunch and did some shopping.

Up at 5 am and onto the Gull Bus. Eight hours flight to Kuala Lumpur, three hours transit, then two hours to Saigon. Long day, at least we have transfers and a hotel room booked, and visas already issued.

Only 11 days until we fly out. I am really looking forward to the trip. All my class can keep track of my trip, and I will be posting videos and pictures for you all to see. Some of the things I hope to see include Angkor Wat, the Mekong in Laos, the Killing Fields, and the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
