Just before we do however we would like send our congratulations to Anne & Davy who have became grandparents once again and to Melissa and Andy who are now the proud parents of their first baby girl! Hope you are all well and we look forward to meeting her when we return!
Now for the 2nd last journal for Oz.......
We left Perth for a lengthy drive to Kalgoorlie for the long anticipated meeting with my Uncle Gordon......and when we say long we mean 29 years in all as we have never met!!! It was really unbelievable meeting him for the first time and getting to know him, he is a real character and like most good Scots still likes to swill back the beer and the halves!!!!
We met the first day and spent most of the day in the pub getting to know each other and reminiscing about the past. Well to say we spent most of the day int he pub is reallly a white lie as we spent all day there and had a really amazing day/night.......however we were all suffering a little the following day!
Met up again on the Saturday and....... you guessed it......we spent the day in the pub! Which we were all happy to do and again we spent the whole day catching up on each others lives as well as much small talk and a lot of drinking...its amazing what you have to talk about after 29 years, we could have probably stayed in there all night as well!!!
Was heartbreaking to leave Gordon in Kalgoorlie as when we get home we are not just a short plane journey to get to see him again...but hopefully it will be sometime soon...we can keep in touch by phone int he meantime.
Headed off to Esperance which was another grueling car journey on straight roads with NIL scenery.....500k's on a fairly straight road all the way can get really boring even when you are sharing the driving!!
Esperance is totally stunning, the beaches are amazing as you will see from the numerous pics we have posted on the website, couldnt really pick the best one s o we just put them all on!! We have also posted a video...one for the kiddies really....at Esperance Pier Sammy the Sealion comes in at night to try and get some free fish from the fishermen and we managed to get a good video clip of Sammy playing around trying to claim some fish!
We spent the first day lazing on a beach all day as it was a wonderful 35 degrees that day and some of the most pristine blue waters you have ever seen (I know that may be wearing thin ny now but every place we go to seems to be better than the next!!). However the following day we had a complete contrast....was much like a Scottish spring day....around 17 degrees and raining!!! And we now know that we cannot bear the cold anymore as we were freezing when back home we would have been stripping off and donning the cooking oil!!!!
We spent most of the rainy day at Cape Le Grand National Park which again is stunnign and has the most amazing beaches although it would have been like an old Scottish photo album if we had tried to go on them...you all know what we mean...on the beach with your duffel coat on...we all have at least one of them!!! We made the best of it though and started doing some walks....until it started pouring with rain and that ended our hiking for the day!
Once again we were on the road for another long and extremely boring drive on some more straight roads for stupid amounts of kilometres!!! Off to Margaret River....wine region.
Decided not to do any of the wine tasting tours as we had done that in Hunter Valley with my mum and dad...that and our budget was wearing a little thin!!! We did however go to The Lake Caves, this is a stunning pristine chamber deep beneath the earth with a tranquil lake that reflects all the formations. The cave is full of stalactites and stalagmites and they all reflect off the surface of the lake...quite amazing to look at! However they failed to mention that the 300 stairs you had to climb down to get into the cave....well you actually have to climb back up them again!!!!!
We also spent the day at a Drug Aware Surf Pro with a couple we had met Rich and Erica. You always think these things look so cool and awesome but the reality is a bit different! You spend forever waiting for the surfers to catch the right wave and then they have to get themselves out the water before the next lot go and then again....wait for the right wave...oh and it was freezing and blowing a gale!! You have to feel sorry for the surfers as they have to come out of the water (freezing), get interviewed, sign their autographs and then they only get a cold shower at the end of it....not the amazing lifestlye you would think!!!
Well as they say int he cartoons........THATS ALL FOLKS!!!!!!!!!
Catch up with you all again for our next instalment soon.....the final one for Oz, boooohoooooooo!
As ever hope everyone is well back home and waiting in anticipation for us returning...yeah right!
Luv,
Maz and Flem xxx
