Max & Dean Year Out 05/06
Hi Guys - just checking in from 'Bello' as it's known locally. Arrived yesterday after a 6 hr coach journey from Newcastle. Had a fab time in Geordie Land - the Hunter Valley was lovely and we also had time to spend a day exploring the beach. Watched a bit of Pro Surfing and was a bit gutted to be missing Kelly Slater who is due to enter the comp at the weekend. I was going to heckle him and tell him that my mate Sash reckons he's past it.... or maybe I would've just sat and watched his bronzed body .... enough of that!. The surf wasn't so great when we were in town - which was evidenced by the big piles of sand in the ocean baths near the beach - but we found the Bogey Hole, which is apparently Australian's oldest ocean pool - dug by convicts many moons ago. Bit disconcerted by the man pants, boots and small change left on the rocks by the Hole - but we went for a lovely swim anyway. Water was crystal clear - no dead bodies. All ok
Now we're in Bellingen - it's fab. Guide book says that people come here and never leave - and we know why. It's so quiet, there's a river across from the hostel which we're going on a sunset canoe ride on later - and I am also planning to hop in a tube and ride the current. We're not far from the coast - but it's so green here. Dorrigo National Park is also close by and we'll have a gander before we head off to Byron on Monday. Or will we head off....??? Watch this space... :-)
