Max & Dean Year Out 05/06
Hola - Our lovely friends. Hope this finds you all well and am sure you're all happy as I hear it's roasting in the UK (and is perma hot in Oz)
Puerto Iguazu was lots of fun. Lovely little town which does pretty well as it's so close to the falls. The falls by the way - are stunning. WOW! I thought I'd seen waterfalls before - but they are nothing compared to these. The national park is basically a network of waterfalls and the main feature is the Devils Throat which is a huge crack in the earth and separates part of Argentina and Brazil. The roar was unbelievable and I have never in my life seen so much moving water. Highly recommended if you ever get the chance.
We also discovered Parrilla - which is basically a huge pile of grilled meat - fantastic. Food in Argentina is not bad - when you know what to eat. Steak and meat in general is very good and very very cheap. However, cheese features heavily. Am working up to trying Provoleta which seems to be pizza without the tom sauce and the dough. Interesting....
Back in BA since yesterday - and resting up before flying back to Santiago tomorrow. Reckon we'll skip town immediately and catch a bus to somewhere nice - thinking about the Lake District for a few days before we head to Peru.
Finally made it to the cemetary in Recoletta today - it's an amazing place. Full of the most amazing tombs and statues - it's famous for being the final resting place of Evita but the whole place is wonderful.
We are pretty much into the swing of things in SA now. Was a huge shock to the system after Oz and NZ - esp. the language barrier. But am pleased to say that my Spanglish is coming along nicely. The weather is also much better - hoping to recover our Australian tans before we get back. I keep losing Dean as he's transparent again. This whole trip will have been a waste....
Looking forward to seeing you all - esp. all the newly weds. Hurrah....
