BULA!
Our time in Fiji is nearly up which means only one thing for us...blog time! We arrived in Nadi two weeks ago now but it feels like two minutes ago. We have both agreed that Fiji is one of our favorite places so far in particular Mana island.
We did get off on the wrong foot though with Fiji thanks to a very very annoying con man called big Joe, who tried selling us just about everything in the airport. Ever since our encounter with Joe it has been paradise. We decided to go to one of the more affordable islands (especially since we camped much to the amusement of all the locals and tourists as it seemed we were the first to do so), Mana but it was everything you want and expect in Fiji, crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, snorkeling, and beach volleyball. Based on that I would recommend anyone who is suffering from stress should go to Mana Island as the biggest dilemmas we would face for the eight days we spent there was for example beach volleyball or sea?
We arrived on Mana Island with four other English lads from Bristol (whom we have spent our entire time in Fiji with so far), a Scottish couple and then there was David, the most inappropriate person I’ve possibly ever met but good fun never the less. The group of us all bonded pretty well over the next eight days as we spent days sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, volley ball (for which Donna was a real talent), fishing (biggest waste of time ever apart from the fishing in Bolivia), Charles and the rest wandered all the way round the Island one day and came back with heaps of stories but you will have to ask him about that! Then as soon as the sun went down we would hit the Bounty (Fiji’s local 60% rum). The nights were always eventful in their own way so I couldn’t possibly go into detail about them all but here are my two favorite. First the cross dressing night which resulted in me and Charles in nice little dressed covered in make up doing cat walks in front of the whole hostel, which made for the most embarrassing time of our lives (pictures will explain all)! And then there was Charles birthday night which resulted in a broken shelf, broken table and a broken fan as the bounty took its effect. Charles and the Bristol boys went on a slight rampage that night as the wandered the beach rugby tackling poor people including George who was happily walking down the beach with his Fijian lover (who Charles also took the privilege of dump tackling!). Overall Charles birthday made a legendary night however we did have a problem at the end of the night… a smashed up fan in the Bristolians bed room. The next night we took on a very secret covert mission of burying the evidence, we still don’t know to this day whether the remains have been found! The other nights all involved similar tales and a similar path of destruction (including a toilet).
After eight days of cold showers we returned back to Nadi with the Bristolians to see out the remainder of our time here. We have since then played golf or should I say Charles, Harvey and Rob played golf meanwhile me and James hit balls as far as we possibly could. We also played a game of beach football (the first real exercise either of us have had in months) which attracted two very interesting blokes who clearly didn’t quite understand what was happening but fun nevertheless. Then finally we all decided to go to a ‘tourists only’ bar in Nadi that we were told about by a taxi driver last night, which turned out to be quite the opposite so we left pretty quickly. Then today the Bristol boys have just left us as they head to another Island and we fly to Melbourne!
Hope all is well back home!
