So another update! We are now at our last destination in Thailand Chiang Mai, till Friday when we head back to Bangkok (again) to fly to Singapore!
The last 10 days or so have been incredible.. After the last blog we left the lovely people we met on our tour and headed to Koh Samui... Probably our least favourite place (although we ended up staying there the longest)! It was really good fun and good nightlife but you could have been anywhere.. Reminded me a bit of Turkey! But none the less we had a really good time here! Our first hotel was a bit of a disaster! Thought we'd found a good deal online only to be dropped off at a hut in the middle of nowhere! Then to make it worse the toilet and shower were outside.. We lasted all of about 2 hours before we checked into another hotel.. This time we went for a bit of luxury and checked into the peace resort which was gorgeous! Lovely hotel and nice pool! Was a bit like a mini holiday in our travels! Only problem was that we got bored pretty quickly after being on the go and meeting other people this place was just like any other holiday resort! Our first night we went to the main town and met up with a friend of Max's had a gorgeous dinner and ended up getting home about 5am.. It was then we decided that's where we needed to be! So the next day we booked ourselves into a hostel for the following night that had been recommended to us and spent the day lazing by the pool.. That night we had our first date night and went for dinner on our own on the beach.. The first time in a while which was lovely!
The following day we left our little bit of luxury and headed to Chewang which is the busier part of Samui where we were reunited with some of the lovely people we met on tour! Our new hostel turned out to be really nice and was in the centre of town opposite arc bar (anyone who's been to Samui will know it)! Our first night reunited ended up in a strip club at 3am (till we saw the prices and left)! Was so good being back with everyone we were a bit lost being on our own! With three crazy (and very lovely) Irish boys and some very lovely girls there was never a quiet moment.. And so Max's tours began! Max decided I'd do all the research and organising for everyone for the next week and he'd take all the credit for it! Typical! But was all good fun... The following day we stayed in bed till about 3pm feeling very sorry for ourselves and then dragged everyone to some temples for a bit of cultural time! That lasted about an hour and we headed to the ice bar... So bloody cold! I know that's expected but one word of advice... Don't wear flip flops! We stayed for one drink and couldn't wait to get back outside! Then time for Pizza Hut! Something I'd been so looking forward to and it was disgusting! So greasy and pretty expensive! We then decided to call it a night as the following day we were meeting at 1pm for an all day pool party at Arc Bar! This is something I'd deff recommend to anyone in Samui! Was a good crack (as the Irish would say)! We started with a tame game of ring of fire around 2pm followed by a slightly rowdier game around 6pm
that's a bit of a blur! We lasted till about 1am and after a solid 12 hours of drinking I was so ready for bed! We said a drunken goodbye to Sophie and Rachel (very sad faces) as we were all heading to Koh Tao the following day!
We all managed to make it out of bed and organised ourselves to get a boat over to Koh Tao! All was going well till we got on the boat and we were met by a storm.. 2 and half hours later and I was very sea sick and crying telling Max I was never getting on a boat again throwing a bit of a tantrum. I was totally traumatised! It was awful! Then to top it all off we got off the boat and had to find somewhere to stay! We were dropped off at a beach resort which none of us were too keen on (thank god it was awful)! So we wandered for about an hour trying to find someone who had room
for the 6 of us with aircon and not ridiculously priced! I'm glad we were patient though as we ended up finding a nice little hotel just minutes from the beach! That night as it was Mirijams birthday we treated ourselves to a nice meal at a fancy (for us) restaurant which was gorgeous! Everyone enjoyed their meal and it was worth the long wait for the table! We even surprised her with a little cake.. They turned all the lights off in the restaurant and everyone sang happy birthday... Which after the day we had was a nice ending! After dinner we headed back to the room whilst everyone else went for a drink as Max had to be up at half 5 to go diving! I had a nice lie in and yet another massage and was greeted by a very over excited Max who had a really good day diving (the best dive he's done)! We ended up buying our own masks and snorkels and going into the sea for our own little excursion! Was all good fun till I hit my knee on the coral and was feeling sorry for myself (still got a scabby knee now - poor me)! But somehow Max convinced me into doing an DSD (discover scuba dive)! I was absolutely terrified! I barely slept that night and was all over the place the morning of the dive! As I'm sure you all know I'm terrified of the sea.. I've been getting better though so thought I'd push myself and give it a go - best decision I've ever made! I really struggled at first and was so nervous but after finally doing my skills in the water I was allowed to go diving! First we had to get the boat over the the dive spot and I spent the whole journey changing my mind about if I wanted to do it or not! Luckily I had Max with me and the most incredible dive instructor Ellie who I couldn't thank enough but we got there in the end and I absolutely loved every minute of it! Once we were down we ended up going 12 metres and it was by far the best thing I've done on our travels! Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures at the photographer who was with us wanted £60 for 2 pictures (we were not impressed)! But all in all the best day! After that it was our last night with everyone so we all went for dinner and then a few
drinks before deciding to see a ladyboy show! Mick was in his element.. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more watching him or the show! It was so funny though! I was so hoping they'd pick on Max I think he'd have a heart attack! After a few more drinks we said our goodbyes and went to bed ready for an early start the next day!
Then it was time to say goodbye to beautiful Koh Tao and the islands and start our trek up to
Chiang Mai.. 48 hours... 2 boats, a coach, a plane, a taxi, 3 tuk tuks, a stop over in Bangkok and an overnight train we finally made it! We are bloody exhausted! Today has been pretty miserable so we've just chilled around the hotel and checked out the town! Our main reason for coming here was to go to the elephant sanctuary - only to find its fully booked for the duration of our stay! We are totally gutted! But I'll update you on what we do instead soon! Our next blog will probably be in Aus and we are so so excited to get there!! Asia is awesome but being on the go 24/7 is exhausting and the food has been hard for me! I can't wait to cook for myself!
But for now we are heading to bed after a really long few days!
Night night xxxx
