G'day, sorry it's been a while we have been SO busy but it's so nice to know we've had so many people reading our blog! It's reassuring that we haven't been forgotten! We have had such a busy few weeks since our last blog in Surfers Paradise. I'll try and remember as much as possible. Our last two days in Surfers were a bit of a disappointment as it rained continuously but luckily we had the apartment so we could chill out and watch films and stuff. I was so gutted when we had to leave (especially as the sun was back) but fortunately it was only an hour up to Brisbane!
Brisbane has probably been our least favourite places in Aus so far as there wasn't much to do and it was pretty expensive but at least we've been there and seen it! We spent most of the day wandering around the city, South Bank was really nice but other than that it was pretty boring. We went to watch the inbetweeners 2 that day which was hilarious, especially as it's based in Aus! That night we had a cheap dinner at our hostel and felt really lame as they had a uni freshers event and we decided to go to bed at 9pm and play cards after 2 drinks (although this was also due to having no money)!! We were so glad we only decided to stay there for one night and then it was a few hours up to Noosa!
Now this was one of our favourite places we've been it was gorgeous! Max totally loves it there and is really keen to go back to work but it's a really small town so finding work can be difficult! Noosa is one of the wealthiest parts of Aus and so expensive! We spent the first day on the beautiful beach as it was a lovely day, watching the surfers and trying to keep Max entertained… which was pretty easy after I was shat on by a bird (just my bloody luck)!! We stayed in the best hostel we've stayed in here Flashpackers (would deff recommend to anyone going to Noosa) It was a lovely little hostel which felt really homey and we met some really nice people - Especially the lovely Kim!!!! The first night was a bit of a disaster for us as we spent all night pre drinking with everyone only to have no money to go out because of the bank holiday at home so we couldn't get any money from our english account to our aus account boooo! The next day we hired electric bikes and explored all of Noosa, this was one of the best things we've done so far. The bikes were so cool, it was like riding a bike but being pushed by a ghost thats the only way I can describe it! We spent 7 hours riding around the town and going to see different beaches and view points… we have plenty of pictures now Max is a pro photographer! We were absolutely exhausted after this, Noosa is so hilly and Max's bike ran low on power towards the end so had to actually peddle which made him feel very hard done by! We stopped off at a Bakery for lunch and it was probably one of the yummiest meals we've had! I had a beef and burgundy pie which was so good I had it two days in a row… Max went for chicken but had massive food envy when he tried mine.. And then just to satisfy my sweet tooth we had a red velvet cupcake (I can still taste it now it was SO good)!!! All in all such a good day (another thing i'd recommend) and we managed to see most of the beautiful town whereas most people just seem to stick to main beach! After another night of drinking games with the lovely people at flash packers we got up at 7am the next day to do a coastal walk in Noosa National Park. The first 10 minutes was torture as it was mostly uphill and really bloody steep but was worth it for the gorgeous views! Again Max turned pro photographer so we have some lovely pics!
After that it was time to day goodbye to beautiful Noosa and head up to Rainbow beach where we stay for 2 nights before going to Fraser Island. We were greeted with a tropical storm which seemed like it was never going to end, so we used that as a good excuse to get into bed and watch scandal all evening! For anyone who hasn't seen Scandal get on it.. We are totally hooked and its perfect for the long bus journeys! There isn't much to do in Rainbow beach as its just a gateway to Fraser Island but was nice to have some time to chill out! The following day we checked out the beach and reorganised all our stuff, I sent a massive box of stuff home although it can take up to three months to get there so guess it'll be a christmas present for my mum!!
Then it was onto Fraser Island, if you come to Aus and don't go to Fraser you're missing out! We had such an incredible weekend. Although the camping was a bit grim (especially knowing you're camping with some of the worlds most poisonous snakes) it was still so much fun! Max was absolutely loving driving a 4x4 across the sand and dirt track roads! Fraser Island is the worlds biggest sand Island and was originally called k'gari by the local aborigines, which translates as paradise, i can see why! We were so fortunate to have such a good tour leader Brendan (despite his bad jokes), who was so knowledgable about the island! The first place we stopped was Lake Mackenzie which was absolutely breathtaking! The water was so clear and truly stunning. Just a shame the water was FREEZING! We still made it in though, although most people made the smart choice of sunbathing! After that we headed to our camp which thankfully had an electric fence to keep the Dingos out and set up for the night! Then it was time to cook, something extremely challenging when theres 8 people in a group, 7 groups and only one tiny cooking area! The first night was a chicken stir fry which wasn't too bad, just the rice wasn't cooked and was pretty grim! But it's all part of the experience… We were lucky to have a nice group of people in our car and met another couple Caroline and Craig then In the evenings all the groups meet so we were reunited with the lovely Kim, Louise and Liam! We had such a good night playing drinking games by the fire, I thought mixing goon and rum together was a good idea (turned out not to be)! Max and Liam were so drunk it provided great entertainment for the rest of us!! Max was such a nightmare going to bed, waking me up every 10 minutes and sleeping with his feet hanging out of the tent (which is not ideal when theres snakes and spiders hanging around)! I was so annoyed when we woke up and he got off lightly with no hangover and I felt like i'd been hit by a bus! Our first stop of the day was to Eli Creak or Hangover Creak as Brendan would call it. This was probably my fave place on Fraser, It's the biggest creak on the island with 80 million litres of water flowing through it a day. You jump in at one end and then just float down the fresh water river. The water is so fresh you can drink it (although we didn't try this)! Most people floated down the river then went to chill on the beach, this was never going to happen with Max around I think we managed to make it down the river 4 times before he was satisfied and happy to sit down for a bit. Although that didn't last long as he spotted some boys playing football so off he went to make some new friends and left me to enjoy the beautiful sun with the girls!
Then it was onto Indian heads which is the most easterly point of the island and is at the end of a 75 mile beach. The heads were named by Captain Cook in 1770 and give you 360 degree views of the Island. This was Max's favourite place on the Island and he has many many pictures of the sunning views! After this we went to the champagne pools which are naturally formed volcanic pools (not pools of champagne much to my disappointment), this is a good place to swim but the water was a bit mucky when we were there so we just chilled on the beach for a bit as we were exhausted! Then it was back to camp for the night to try and cook some steak for dinner and play more drinking games. I was still so hUngover from the day before so took it easy but it was so nice to chill by the camp fire and go to the beach and see the stars. I've never seen the sky lit up like that before it was gorgeous. We went as a big group but I was so paranoid we were going to be attacked by Dingos! Then the following morning it was time to say goodbye to our camp and head off for our last day on the island. Our final stop was a place called Lake Wabby, this is the deepest lake on the island and is home to lots of fish! The 40 minute trek there didn't seem too bad but the walk back was complete torture. After walking through the forest you get to some spectacular sand dunes, its like being in the dessert and it's absolutely gorgeous, which were great going down to the lake and a nightmare to get back up! I have to admit I was glad to get back to the car after the long walk! Then it was time for our final lunch before heading back to main land. We both had such an amazing time on the Island and met some amazing people who i'm sure we'll see more of on our travels but we were glad to get back to rainbow beach and have a good shower and nap! That night our tour guide Brendan was playing a gig at the hostel bar so we all got together like loyal groupies and was pleasantly surprised at how good (and sexy) he was… We all sat there is awe (Max included)! Then it was time for bed and probably one of the best sleeps i've had in a long time before we headed up to 1770 the next day!
Unfortunately I'm really behind with this blog so that was all about 2 weeks ago… but i'll try get up t date now we have wifi… woo!!!
Lots of love xxxxxxx
