So picking up where we left off in Chiang Mai, Unfortunatley both Max and I have been ill and weren't really up for doing much meaning we missed out on what Chiang Mai had to offer. Our main reason for visiting was the Banchan elephant sanctuary which was fully booked for the entire time we were there - So gutted! So instead we just chilled by the pool and went to a Thai cooking class. Now we are both master chefs we'll be sure to cook for you when we get home ;)! Since we brought our diving masks in Koh Tao we haven't had much opportunity to use them so decided that the pool was a good enough excuse.. got many weird looks as we spent an entire afternoon snorkelling in the pool! Other than that we ate pretty well as it's much cheaper in Northern Thailand and we again reunited with some friends we met on our tour. This resulted in a very drunk Katie being sick on the street - Keeping it classy!! I think I feel sadder every time we've said goodbye only to see each other a few days later!
Then it was onto Singapore.. AMAZING! Totally worth the 24 hours it took us to get there! We left Chiang Mai at 5pm on Friday and got a sleeper train down to Bangkok - Fairly unexciting except i read the whole of enney meany (a really creepy book) and the only bit of sleep I did get I woke up in a panic thinking I was trapped in the train! We then arrived at Bangkok at 6am and had a 7 hour wait for our flight! To make things worse we could only check in two hours before so had to just sit and wait with nothing to do for 5 hours! I managed to get a few hours sleep (Max has some very flattering pictures) and when we finally checked in there was a very rewarding Krispy Kreme on the other side! And to make it better two doughnuts cost us 90p (highlight of the day)!! When we finally arrived in Singapore we checked into our Hostel in Little India and went to explore.
We went for a really nice curry which was pretty cheap for Singapore and treated ourselves to a drink on the river in Clarke Quay, Clarke Quay was so lovely it's a really nice river with bars and restaurants along it.. so pretty and really good nightlife. Unfortunatley alcohol in Singapore is so expensive we went to hooters and only had one drink before we decided to call it a night as we couldn't really afford it and it had been such a long day. The next day we woke up pretty early and decided to get a hop on hop off bus tour of the city and i'm so glad we did! There was so much to Singapore we'd have never known or seen and we had such a good day. We took so many pictures and Marina Bay was breathtaking the pics don't do it any justice! We went on the flyer which is their version of the London eye - something I'd totally recommend to anyone going to Singapore (Louise)!!!! But all in all we had such a good day!! Was such a good city to explore and we both said it was how expected LA to be! That night we went to the Raffles for a drink and we were so disappointed! It was nothing special and really expensive! But at least we've been I guess! Then we headed back to Clarke Quay had some dinner and sat by the river again!
Then it was time to be big kids and we headed to Universal Studios! Now we've been to Florida, LA and Singapore (and to be honest they're all the same) and it was so so much fun! We brought fast track tickets as it was so busy and we literally queued for no more than 5 mins for a ride! I made Max have his picture taken with lots of characters which he wasn't impressed about but I think he secretly enjoyed it! We managed every ride in the park by 4pm then went back to the hostel for a power nap before our last night (sad sad faces)! We went to Chinatown and had some street food which Max loved (as he had two dinners) but i'm not a fan of chinese food nor street food so not really my thing! Then we went back to Marina Bay to see it at night and it was still so gorgeous! We literally just sat there for hours! I could quite happily live in Singapore for 6 months! Was so nice to be pleasantly surprised by somewhere as we really had no expectations! Our last day we were planning to go to the botanical gardens which would have been a nice free day out but we woke up to torrential rain!! So we got talking to some people in our room who told us electronics were really cheap in there and we were thinking of buying a camera so though we'd check it out as the weather was so miserable. A few hours later we made it back to the hostel with a new MacBook for me and a new phone/camera for Max - oops! But I guess that's what all our savings are for! We were both so excited with our new toys! Best impulse buy!!
So after spending all our money it was time to head back to the airport to our last stop off in Asia Kuala Lumpur. I can't believe how quickly these 5 weeks have gone! Not sure what to say about KL. Its a really confusing place and I don't think i'd hurry back nor recommend it. We did have a good few days though! Our first day we went to time square shopping mall to see the indoor theme park. It was crazy a 10 floor shopping centre with a massive theme park running though it (we have pictures!! We decided not to go to the theme park and instead we went to a place called escape. Basically they lock you in a room for 45 minutes and you have to try to escape - easier said than done! We chose the hardest level and didn't even make it out of the first room (there were 4)! But still really good fun! Once we were truly defeated we went back to the hotel and chilled out for a bit before heading to the Petronas towers - Now the tallest twin towers in the world. They were amazing lit up at night and we got some good pictures (especially Max with his fancy new phone, he thinks he's professional now)! Then we went to NANDOS for dinner and it was SO good! Much better than at home and a fraction of the price (so good we went back for lunch the next day)! On our way back I really wanted to go for a massage so when we saw the green elephant spa I insisted we go see how much it was. We walked in and Max asked for the prices and the guy said i'm sorry this is a mens only sex spa (basically asking me to leave) it was SO funny! I couldn't hold it in… and we made a very swift exit!
Our last day in KL and Asia and we went back to the towers to see them during the day, still pretty cool but not as good as when they're lit up at night! Then we had Nandos again for lunch and went to the cinema to see the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles in 3D and i have to admit it was SO good! I wasn't sold when Max insisted we see it but i'm so glad we did! The weather was pretty rubbish in KL and we didn't do a great deal but the city was nothing on Singapore and we just wanted to get to Aus now! Which is where we will be in a few hours time as I'm currently writing this on the plane! We decided ages ago that we'd fly business class and it is so good! We are feeling very spoilt right now! With full flat beds and VIP treatment we are loving it! Wish we could fly like this all the time! But for now i'm off to bed as its about 1am!! Please ignore any spelling/grammar mistakes I haven't figured out how to use spell checker on this laptop yet and i'm too tired to check it all myself…
but goodnight and i'll update you all from Aus!!!
Lots of love xxxxxxx
