Lyn uses her birthday SpaFinder certificates to book the family treatment at Santa Clara's Le Spa. We set a group Hamman, Body Exfoliation, Tea Ceremony, and Massage Thursday afternoon. I protest moderately and then agree to join the girls for a package with minimum of (5).
Start day w/ my early bird - Jen to tour the city and book our Baru Island trip for Friday at the docks. Here's where I load up on Cartagena city pics. We hit a bakery and 1 of 2 Exito grocery stores within 4 blocks of the Santa Clara.
Le Spa fills our noses with the aromatherapy of fresh mint and herbs. We are given robes, paper shorts, tops, refreshments and detox in the Hamman. 5 attendants split us up and each go to a shower/ massage room where a cocoa - salt - eucalyptus scrub proceeds head-to-toe. Shower and 60 minute massage. I fall asleep midway...wake up to the girls giggling and laughing. They serve us tea, dried fruits/ nuts, and we are free to lounge around in robes/slippers before dressing and back to the pool. Was very relaxing and the massage made snap, crackle, pop sounds in my back/shoulders. Very thorough, excellent service. The girls loved it. Eh.....I'd still take it or leave it.
Plenty of sun/pool time left. One of my many days to login at work and get things done. Lyn and I leave at Happy Hour to a small Peruvian cafe I found 2 blocks away. Best Sangria we've every had. Ataluahpa Cafe. So good we take the girls back the next evening and order outstanding Tostones ( small fried plantain discs/cups filled with toppings - diced grilled vegetables)
Dinner tonight is at Santisimo. Rated by other guests we've met at the Santa Clara as the best meals they've every had. Also good reviews on Trip Advisor. They offer an open bar, 4 course meal package that even for the girls w/o alcohol tab is reasonable. Figure they'll have some Sangria or Champagne. I look at the website and chef credentials....pics look incredible. Worth it ? Depends on order. The appetizers are all outstanding - Calamari, Ceviche, Fish Stew, Patacones/Empanadas, and a Seafood Crepe. Entrees surprise us as the 2 Colombian entrees are so-so. My La Santisima Trinidad has 3 small shrimp (not prawns) and a minced fish mix that sound incredible on the menu, but is boring. Jenny's Obatala...also sounds incredible mix of spices and short ribs, but ends up a bit dry. Lynn has a very nice Filete del Pelegrina...fish filet w/ herbs. Katie has fish also and enjoys it. Ash's Lomo San Martin de Porres is best thing we taste. Excellent tenderloin. We are stuffed but have desserts that also come in 2nd to the first evening at Cafe San Andre. A bachelor party of young American guys have us join their toasts and after the Sangria, Champagne, Malbec, and rounds of Tequila.....whew....quite a meal. The girls were impressed with a fine dining experience in Cartagena.
