Hi there, its mat, back in bangkok. Just had an incredible experience over in Kanchanaburi and the Erawan National Park. Took as bus from bangkok and checked into a lovely guesthouse right on the river Kwai, I didnt really know the history of the place, but after some reading up I was in the know and pretty in awe of the history of the place! Thousands of allies died in the making of the Death railway. It was was built by Japan in WW2 to connect Thailand to Burma to support its forces in the Burma campaign. The allies tried a fair few tiems to blow up the bridge and only succeeded in damaging it a bit, so the Prisoners Of War wuold just be made to rebuild it, in shocking conditions.
So after arriving at Poing Pen guesthouse, I got chatting to a raelly nice Argy couple, and we went off on an evening elephant trek. Firstly we took a bus to the rescue palce and then had a short trek thruogh jungle, was pretty cool, but then we went down tho the river kwai and after putting on a lifejacvket, the elephants walked into to the river one by one and we got to jsut sit on their necks and give them a good old scrub down! the instructors would be standing on the backs shouting commands and the elephants would completely submerge with me on the neck still, then we'd put on some soap and rub em down with a big ol brush. few times they would suck up some water and splash us, so funny! loved it. then went back via the night market, and slept. early morning wake up, me Pablo and Carlota decided to cheap it up and took the local bus to the waterfalls, savingt about 1000Baht! spent the whole day trekknig through dense jungle and 7 tiers of stunning waterfall. probably the most beautiful waterfalls i've ever seen.. battery is on charge, pics up soon, simply unbelievable. good few jumps and rocks slides too! absolutely nakered, took the bus back and then took a bus to bangkok, and happily randomly met vernon whilst walknig along Ko Sahn Road (saw his head poking over the crowds). Just checked back into Sidthi, and we're gona wander about then get some sleep. check into D+D hotel tomorrow, so gona spend the day sunning ourselvees on the rooftop pool!! Right next blog from Bali from me.. we fly out on tuesday.. Mat
