ARGENTINA!!!!!
Awesome to be here. The journey from Santiago to Mendoza was probably the most dramatic and breathtaking bus journey Í've ever been on, and thats saying something. There have been hair-raising non existant cliff roads in the mountains between northern Vietnam and Laos, and stunning coastal roads in Australia and good old Cornwall. But nothing compares to the Andes Mountains! We set off out of Santiago at around midday, beers and sandwiches at the ready, and kicked back in our fantastic reclining chairs. We eventually left behind the city and travelling along the flatlands with the awe inspiring Andes ahead of us, storm clouds looming above the peaks with the odd flash of bright white snow and ice. All of a sudden we were in the mountains, surrounded by the most randomly coloured cliffs and peaks I'd ever seen. There were shapes I didn't know existed and clouds that looked like dry ice curling around the snow capped jagged roof tops. We soon arrived at a winding mountain road after following the fast flowing river in the valley. The driver forced the gearbox into first gear and began the ascent. There were around 15 tight turns winding up the mountain side, and we grew closer and closer to the snow. A small flurry made me realise how high up we were, its summer here!!! Eventually we descended into Mendoza, and checked into a small hostel. Had some of the free wine on offer and then treated ourselves to the biggest steak we could find!!! Very happy, we retired to bed. Today we have explored much of Mendoza's wide streets and gardens, it's a really beautiful city...time up More soon!
