Howdy people!!!!
Two weeks in and just about figured how to use this Travel Blog on STA and upload some pictures!!!! Trip been sensational so far....already ticked off Bangkok, Saigon, Phnom Penh & Siem Reap.
Highlight definately being Siem Reap & Angkor Wat...we've been here 5 days now and checked out just about every temple going...seeing Angkor Wat by sunrise (yes I managed a 5am start!!!) and sunset!! Absolutely spectacular - you have to see it to realise just how impressive these temples and structure are!!!! Photo's do not do it justice!!!
Plenty of alcohol consumed in Bangkok, managed to swerve the Lady Boys (one asked me if I wanted a massage (it has stubble)..my response, only if IT paid me a hell of a lot of money!!!!!), messiest night ended with breakfast in our hotel at 8am...top night had by all!!!
After 'swish' accomodation in Bangkok, we've drastically reduced the star rating...Phnom Penh - no shower, currently paying 2.50 english pounds each a night - bargain I'd say!!
Seem some pretty sad and eerie sights too.....Saigon War Remnants Museum in Vietnam (some shocking photo's), Toul Sleng (S21) Prison & Killing Fields in Phnom Penh (re Khmer Rouge Pol Pot regime).....really makes you realise how lucky we are and is incredible to see some of the inhumane things humans are capable of.
Saying that the people of Cambodia really seem to be the happiest around and are always smiling (even though they do treat you like a walking cash machine......I do not have ATM or VISA tattooed to my forehead! and constantly harrass you for Tuk Tuk's, Boom Boom and many other strange and wierd substances...don't worry Jackie all were politely declined!!).
Phnom Penh (other than above Museum/Killing Fields) was a little disappointing...only one day spent there! However, boat trip up the Tonle Sap lake to Siem Reap was quality - the opportunity to see the locals and various floating villages - together with collecting copious amounts of sun burn - sun cream is always recommended!!!!).
Saigon is just crazy!!!! We arrived late and had a stroll around...only to be confronted by literally millions of bikes!!! We daren't cross the road!!! In the end you realise that you just have to grim and bare it and cross the road without even considering the oncoming bikes, taxis, buses etc - they'll swerve around you!!! Very random!!! We were here for Chinese New Year too - very busy in the day!!! Classic night out in Apocolypse Club too!!! (Spending most of the night doidging numerous Vietnamese hookers - they really won't take no for an answer!).........strangest moment....Saigon....a father approached us on a moped with what I can only assume was hi daughter on the back, I was offered Boom Boom - make your own minds up what this relates to - shocking, we were disgusted and quickly scuttled off!!!
Heading to Bangkok in the morning (10 hours on bus)....then down to the Islands, Koh Samui, Koh Tao & Koh Phang Ngang for the Full Moon Party - should be a classic!!!
Both of us are fine (ignoring the odd dodgy Asian stomach moment) - and thoroughly enjoying time away!!!! Even Super Rams are on fire at the moment - bring on UNITED!!!
Take care all, missing everyone (even them yapping dogs!!!!!!)
Speak soon,
Matty
