Day 5 - The following day we spent on and around the lake, kayaking, swimming and a spot of fishing. After all this we packed up and headed up the volcano "llaima" that had erupted the previous evening. After a very bumpy ride we reached the evacuated ski-resort, which felt almost like a ghost town. After getting a few decent photos infront of the smoking volcano, discovered a plant known as "old man's beard". This was very fun especially for Jack, as he had finally found that elusive facial hair he had spent his entire life searching for! After visiting the volcano, we all decided it was time to head home.
After resisting the temptation to alter our trip and head across the border to Argentina, we decided that we would just stay on the farm and relax...and so we did. The next few days consisted of swimming in the pool and rivers, and also extreme croquet (an off-shoot of croquet, but a bit too extreme to reach mass exception!).
Day 8- We spent the afternoon and evening with Will, Lawrence, Matthew and Mati chilling in the hot tub and by the pool. Then we all went out in the evening to the bars and clubs in Temuco. Jack and I soon found out that a portion of spirits in Chile is half of a half pint glass! So, after a substantial amount of alcohol we went out clubbing and made our way back early morning, stopping twice. The first to buy hot-dogs from the petrol station, which was a MASSIVE error! The second was to pull over so that Matthews could chunder at the side of the road!
The following day was our last. We spent it chilling by the pool and playing with the kids. After a family meal we said our slightly emotional goodbyes and took the night bus from Temuco back up to Santiago. We had 10 hours to wait untill we had to go to the airport, so we used this oppertunity to look round Santiago a bit more. We realised that our initial reaction to Santiago was not representative of the city as a whole. We took the tube station around the city and buildings were in much better condition and there was significantly less poverty. We saw the parliament buildings and the main shopping areas, all very beautiful. The weather was beautiful reaching 30C, so we popped into an Irish bar to get some beer and watch the Wales vs England, i dont think i will mention the score! After this we went back to the bus station to collect our bags and then went to the airport.
