We are writing this blog in a beautiful park from Brighton, England, and this is and update of the past 4 days in London. We survived the 2 long flights from Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur and then London and arrived late Saturday 12th. We found the tube to our accommodation without much trouble and got to our very tiny rental in Clapham that we found on airbnb.com.
The first day in London was amazing, we spent the whole day with Emma C (who Matt worked with at pure) and she took us on a day of adventure for an introduction to London culture! We went on the eye, saw Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, oxford st and had a famous curry in brick lane! After a full day, we both crashed at 7pm.
Day 3 of our trip, our feet were aching from the previous days adventure so we found our way to Hyde Park and hired some Burrows bikes. This is the highlight of Selby's trip so far - it was beautiful! After the park we went and saw where Emma works in marble arch which was awesome to say the least. Much to Matt's enthusiasm we went to oxford street for more shopping!!! YAY he went.... After a few hours of shopping and experiencing the sheer amazing ness of topshop (wahoo abi and Michelle!) we were kindly offered a place to stay with Emma for a few nights.
We got to her house and were recommended of a place for dinner called "The chicken shop" (now this story does need a lot of detail from Matt, so bear with it). We started looking for a small diner with grey walls called the chicken shop, after about 10-15 mins of walking we were about to give up, turned around and it was literally in front of us... Destined to happen. We went In and the smell was euphoric, there was a roatissary with 12 whole chickens over a coal fire roasting away. We eagerly awaited our turn to sit in front of the oven where the food is cooked right in front of you.. Now some of you may know My (Matt's) obsession with nandos and how many times I have gotten chicken from there, let me tell you, this fresh chicken shops whole chicken topped it all. It was the juiciest, lemony, flavor some chicken I have ever had in my life. When I have enough money I will pay for the owners to fly home and open a chicken shop in Brisbane. After I stuffed my face with as much chicken I could handle, and finished it off with some apple pie, We took the rest home and ended the night.
Day 4 was our most touristy day. We stood with thousands to watch the changing of the guards (a small marching band walked past for all of a few minutes) and bought overpriced London Pass's to skip lines at Westminster Abbey. The highlight of the day was the Yeomen tour at the Tower of London. He cleverly taught us history in a hilarious and gruesome way! Another highlight for Selby was going to kings cross station to see the famous platform 9 3/4! We laughed at the long line of people waiting to pose with the half immersed trolley and cleverly posed behind them with a Harry potter scarf to save waiting -Selby will photoshop it later. We then went to the Phoenix Theater to see the musical, Once, which we both enjoyed and Selby wishes she could have seen a show every night.
Today we made our way to Brighton and are enjoying the beautiful scenery of a different kind of beach then we are used to! The next few days will be exciting as we make our way to Liverpool, so wish us luck and enjoy your Easter weekend!
Love Matt and Selby xx
