Wow - The last week has been a real adventure! Since the last blog that we wrote on day 5 from Brighton, we made it to Bath, Manchester, Liverpool and then back to London before we started our topdeck tour where we are on the bus writing this now.
The morning in Brighton was beautiful with blue sites and no clouds, we walked along the beach again and got some coffees and kicked a rock around the pathway with a new game we coined soccer-rock. Just before lunch we got on the bus and headed to bath via London.
Bath is a beautiful city with immaculate architecture and a big river going through the whole city. We stayed at a YMCA hostel that night, and thank god it was only one night because it smelt and we had 2 single beds pushed together. When we checked in, we were recommended to go to this Bizzar comedy walking tour. The tour was full of laughter and got to see a bit of bath that night, he didn't tell us anything about the history, just told jokes and showed us around. One trick he did, he had this bunny which he chained up, stuffed into a potato bag and padlocked It, threw it into the river where it sank down.... Magic, minutes later the Houdini bunny escaped the chains and we saw him float to the top of the river!
The next day (day 7) we went and saw the Roman baths which was really interesting how the water comes from natural hot springs so deep in the earth. We then joined a tour to go see the amazing rocks that form Stonehenge! We did admire the old and mysterious formation however after 20 minutes we'd seen enough. Luckily our tour also took us to the small town of Lacock where parts of Harry Potter was filmed like Godricks Hollow! We found this little old fashioned town very interesting, like stepping back in time! That night we made our way to Manchester via London on a long, loud and uncomfortable overnight bus - fun!
Arriving in cold, dirty and quiet Manchester at 5am probably wasn't the best idea we've had. Everyone was still in bed and we couldn't find an real English breakfast until 8.30am where we found a nice little pub with cheap full English breaky and men drinking beer and spirits already! Perfect! We found Manchester to be a little boring as we weren't quite sure what to do there and only stayed till the afternoon when we took a short train to Liverpool.
We immediately loved Liverpool. The blue sky stretched over the stunning city hall as a wedding party stood the steps getting photos. Our hotel was in a dodgy area however our room was spacious and comfortable. We made the mistake of getting pizza from a small takeaway shop where we received rude service and terrible pizza but we were keen to see liverpool the following day!
Day 9 we awoke to the best included buffet breakfast and set out to explore Liverpool. It was the first day of bad weather we've had so far with gray sky's and spitting rain. We didn't have time for the ferry and the Beatles museum didn't interest us so we wondered around Mathew St looking around for a crowed pub to watch Liverpool vs Norwich 'football' game! We decided upon the Liverpool Pub and Selby had her first ever Pimms and Matt got a pint of beer.
We watched a great game with a cheering pub and some Liverpoolians got really into the game. We won 3-2! We made friends with Gracie and Sam, an English couple there to see some DJ's, and we decided to continue along Mathew St, bar hopping together! It all got a bit hazy after a few free Jäger Bombs and a couple of rounds. We lost our new friends somewhere along the way but luckily Facebook has connected us with some hilarious photos that depict how much fun we had with them! We don't remember how we got back to the hotel or when but we made it back with all our things still intact and even managed to set an alarm and get up at 5am for a 6am bus back to London! What an experience!
Our last day in London we met with Selby's cousin Peter (Jan), his partner Lauren and their adorable 1yr old Alia! They took us to the Greenwich Meantime and we had a fantastic day getting to know them all. We feel like we didn't see enough of London as we didn't even make it to a Museum (Chris won't be happy about this!) but we will see plenty around Europe. Both of us can't wait for another chance to get back to London!
It's now day 11 and we have joined our Topdeck tour! We've already met some lovely people who we've befriended and it looks like we're set to have a fun time jamming everything we can into this 8 day tour to Amsterdam, Germany, Austria (where Selby will celebrate her birthday) and Rome. It sure will be a busy week with lots more stories to tell!
