Quick little blog from Hong Kong aiport, 8:11am, friday.
Its been a groovey 4 days in Hong Kong, have been dealing with a throat infection so activities have been limited, but i think ive still done pretty good! The backpacker fire will never die out.
Day 1: Didnt arrive untill past 10pm so I slept in Hong Kong airport. Someone told me they read HKI was voted the best airport in the world to sleep in....dont know if i agree with that statement but i can only compare it to sleeping at Gatwick and it was certainly better that that!
Day 2: Its sunny and warm! Not since Japan have I enjoyed such nice weather (lots more to come!). Speaking of nice, Chungking Mansions (the hostel/complex building I stayed in, was not...(google this i swear its famous for being budget heaven in Hong Kong sentral but also famous for being sh*t). Nevertheless, soo happy to be in a warm country:) Had a nice walk down the prominade to familiarize myself with the area, located here at the perfect spot overlooking Victoria Harbour are most of the Hong Kong museums and the "Avenue Of Stars", sorta like Hollywood boulevard just for cantonese stars! Got my picture with Bruce Lee, Chow Yun Fat & Jackie Chan:)
Day 3: This was a cultural day indeed! Spent the early hours of the day at the Hong Kong Space Museum, got to feel what it would be like to walk on the moon with my weight etc:) Went to a book shop and purchased the follow-up to my current read "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" so ive got something to dig my nose in on the beaches in the philippines^^. At night (ca 8pm) me and two others boared the famous "Star Ferry" which according to National Geographic is " One of 50 places in a lifetime". It takes you on a 1 hour cruise around Victoria Harbour and was timed with the laser show the put on every night over the thousands of buildings on Hong Kong Island and millions of lights on either side. Magnificent.
Day 4: Today I went with Alex the brit to Hong Kong Island! Walked to the vietnamese embassy for him and back which gave us a nice look around the island. Next was Hong Kong Park, listed in Lonely Planet as a top 10 site. Went to a botanical garden (lovely), and the Hong Kong Visual Arts Center, but my favourite was the Aviary. Tons of rare birds in an exotic environment flying over your head and landing right in front of you to pick up peanuts and whatnot. We arrived at feeding time so we were easily entertained for a good 30 minutes! (Nothing like free fun). After that we took the 1989 tram up to the highest point in Hong Kong "The Peak". Very steep climb to a very famous area which is home to the best 360degree veiw over the entire Hong Kong area. Stayed unill past 6 to see the lights come on, got some good photos of that and was totally worth the cost. Overall, Hong Kong has been fun, much more western than mainlad China and a little more expensive. Wonder when ill come back..
My flight is in ten mintues so better dash, still nurisng my throat but I think the warm weather will be all the medicine i need:)
Peace and love everyone
