Today is our last day in Nha Trang before we head to Hoi An and the home of the world famous tailor shops.
I set off in my swimming trunks and shirt on the tour bus as today I am going to do my first ever snorkelling, I'm excited about the prospect and I wonder what it's like.
We got to the seaside which was only a few minutes away from the hotel and got on our boat; there were about 10 of us and about the same number again of random Vietnam people. Two of us opted to do scuba diving instead of snorkelling, I would have done this but I needed to have done it before properly with an instructor so sadly I couldn't.
I set out to sea and we passed an amazing long gondola/chair lift which took people to one of the many islands in the sea nearby. The scenery on the way to the snorkelling was breathtaking, lots of small, green, rocky islands and a few other boats here and there. The sea was nice and blue and looked the best we had ever seen so far in Vietnam.
I arrived at the first of two snorkelling spots after about half an hour, I had to put on goggles and flippers as well as a life jacket. I felt the life jacket would help me as it would make the job much easier and anything for an easier life right? The flippers were an interesting experience and walking around in them was tricky on the boat. I walked to the edge and jumped in.
The water was actually nice and warm but very salty. It was strange adapting to only breathing through my mouth and the pipe rather than through my nose.
I really enjoyed it eventually when I got round to the fact I could put my head under the water and breathe okay, i was above some coral as the water was relatively shallow and saw loads of multicoloured fish, big and small.
When I finished i jumped back on the boat and went to the final snorkelling spot about 20 more minutes away.
This one was a lot deeper and had a fair few jellyfish, which were hard to avoid when you were essentially doing the swimming equivalent of walking staring at your feet. I saw the fish species of the character with a scar on finding nemo in the fish tank, I also saw a massive swarm (the name of this escapes me at the moment) of fish of around 40 or so swimming together in unison, which was amazing; as well as numerous little fishes. We tried to take a few underwater shots on Jess's camera, I forgot that once I got down a certain distance obviously the water would go down the pipe so I had a nice mouthful of salty seawater and coughed for a while.
Before we were scheduled to go back we had lunch on the boat, the middle seats were pulled back to make a giant table. They came out with noodles, rice, pork, potatoes, soup, bread and fruit. It was so nice and appreciated as I had built up an appetite with all the faux swimming with a life jacket on
