Hey to anyone who is reading this. I have uploaded all of my pics to date, if anything as a backup copy. Apologies for the skewed photos, cant really alter them on this PC. I am currently in Arequipa at 2300m and doing well. A diary sorta thing follows
9/9 After my leaving home at 2am last tuesday I finally arrived in Lima at 1930 local time. I met Patricia who is on my tour and from Switzerland. Just grabbed some food from a local supermarket ate then got some much needed sleep.
10/9 Woke up around 8am and took breakfast, the now common piece of bread and jam but the strong coffee helps. There was a guided tour around the city but for 80 soles, about 16 of your pounds, so I did it myself, with Patricia. Needless to say it want long until I was lost! Lima is bigger then it looks on the map. We went to the Miraflores, the nice subarb on the coast. Then trekked for an age upto the Plaza de Armas in Central Lima. Walked around and had a two course lunch for 5 soles! Saw the cathedral then decided to head back for the group meeting at 7pm. After 4 hours of walking we finally cracked and got a taxi back, was cheap and much needed. Met my roomate Tim who has previosuly been traveñlling around equador on his own. The others in the Group consist of Jenna and Adam, a couple getting married in May, Penny and John, a couple who have just married, two sweedish girls called Isabel and Emily, An Aussie called Ellen, another Brit called Charlotte, a Malayan called Juani and then 3 Germans, one is the daughter, Suzanne who has been travelling on her own but her parents Doris and Manfred have joined her until La Paz. Our guide is a Cuzco-ian called Gorge. We all went out for a meal and all get on very well. Went out for a few drinks in Barranco until the earlier hours.
11/9 Up early again for more bread and jam, maybe this is why Paddington liked Jam Sandwiches! Passed the morning in Barranco just looking around and taking coffee. Then got a local bus to Paracas, a small fishign town south of Lima. It took several hours and the bus drivers are very confident in their driving skills! Arrived Paracas, Dinner out. Had Cerviche, the local dish of raw fish, onion and lemon. Was nice but didnt sit well with other peoples stomachs.
12/9 Yet another early morning. Took a trip the the Ballestas Islands aka the Poor mans gallapagos. Saw sealions, pelicans and penguins. We left Paracas soon after for a trip to a winery to try the local Pisco. It is like brandy and we tasted a lot of it in various forms. They tend to have it as a Pisco Sour which is the drink with lemon and egg white. Its nice! After this, a great plan if I may say so, we went sandboarding and sand buggying in the dunes near Ica. I have video but am struggling to upload up them but to give you the jist i spent about half an hour with Charlotte screaming in one ear and Ellen the other! After this busy day we were glad to arrive at our hotel in Nazca. Unfourtunatlry there was a powercut so no electricity or water. We survived with semi warm beers and hours of table tennis dictated by Juani who also dragged some poor germans into the firing line too.
13/9 Today we woke up after a small lie in. Some of us went for a flight over the Nazca lines in 6 seater Cesnas whilst the others went to see some mummies. I have upload the pictures, see if you can work out where the shapes are or what they are, it was hard to take photos. After this we spent an afternoon beside the pool. Yes a pool, the palces we are managing to get are basic but have some extra facilities. I now have each leg tanned only on one side so next time I am out in the sun I will have to pose differently.
We took a nightbus at 2130 to here, Arequipa.
14/9 Arrive arequipa at 0730, didnt get much sleep but all thoughs of tiredness were quelled when we saw the breakfast at the hotel. There were cereals and fruits!!!
Some spent the day around the pool whilst I some of the others went around the local convent, the pictures of the red buildings, fountains and rooms. After some lunch I went to the museum of juanita which is an Inca who was sacrificed upon the local mountain but due to the temperature was preserved and is now on exhibit. I have just returned and thought I would post this to keep you updated. Going out out tonight but i am not sure what to expect, some of these places are slightly docile, even in comparison to Northampton.
Tomorrow we go to Colca Canyon and then return here before moving to Cuzco.
Anyways, hope all is well with you, Ill write again when I get a chance. Stay Safe. Lueogs!!
The photo is of those of us who went to the covent today in Arequipa.
