Our first experience of a night bus went much better than expected. The buses have 3 rows of double bunks and we managed to get one next to eachother. It means you almost get a bed to yourself, certainly enough room to lie down and after they turned the lights out at 9 we both slept almost all the way apart from a few juddery moments when the roads got bumpy.
Nah Trang is on the coastline of Vietnam and as soon as we had found a guesthouse we waisted no time in getting down to the beach for lunch the place where we ate had a lovely pool too. The beach here is gorgeous, very much geared up towards tourism and Nah Trang is lots of fun because of this. We celebrated our arrival the first night with free cocktails and shots!
Matt found a very cheap water park for us to visit the following day within walking distance and set next to the beach. When we arrived there was hardly anyone there and there were no sunbeds, just a few scattered chairs. We made the most of it and went on the slides and round the lazy river on tyres (very lazy - no current at all!). It was only when Gem tried a rope swing over the pool that we realised how slimey the tyres were, that's her excuse anyway, the other 5 people in the park at the time and Matt found it very amusing when she slipped and back flopped into the pool below!
Time for a day on the beach so we rented deck chairs and spent the day watching the kite surfers and lots of tourists playing on an inflatable park set up in the sea, hours of entertainment there! Matt replaced our stolen playing cards and we played card games for beer hoi for most of the evening.
Friday we went to a place called Vinpearl as recommended by an English guy we met one breakfast. It is an amusement park built on an island opposite Nah Trang and has the longest cable car across sea to get there. It was built by Russians and there is a hotel resort there also. The cable ride gave us great views of Nah Trang, even if it was a little scarey. The rest of the day was spent on numerous rides including a "coasterbob" which was like bobsleighing and on a very long track from the top of the hill round lots of scary bends, and you control the speed and brakes yourself, hilarious! We went to the waterpark there in the afternoon where the slides were as scarey as they can get - see pictures, Gem only bottled out once and we both have bruised elbows, shoulder blades etc from the velocity of the worst ones! We then went to their marine centre and saw lots of sharks and turtles, stingrays and massive fish - it was brilliant. Took lots of pics too. And to finish off the day we went to a water fountain/light show to music, all very well done. For the money we paid it was a great day out.
We leave for Ho Chih Minh on a night bus later today.
