Bec and I woke up today trying to think of the best way to prepare ourselves for the biggest party we've...OK, I've ever been to. What better than to do nothing. So that's what we did. After breakfast at the hotel, we read our books on the beach, and cooled off in the pool. I think Bec just floated for about an hour in the pool. After lunch by the pool and apple pie, we dived into a know-down-drag-out ping pong tournament. Needless to say, Becky kicked my ass.
The hotel arranged for cheap transportation down to Haad Rin, the beach where they have the full moon party. The hills in Koh Phangan are steeper than most roller coasters, seriously, and sitting in the back of a truck flying down the road, is a tad scary. When we got down to the streets of Haad Rin, we didn't see too many people, but it was only 10:30 or so. Then we hit the beach, and saw the throng of thousands. It was a sight. Thousands of people swarming around fire spinners and spitters, all holding buckets of mixed drinks and covered in flourescent body paint.
It didn't take long for us to paint ourselves, buy a bucket and join in. We partied straight 'till 4:15 AM, and decided we had had enough. When we got back to the hotel, we found two vacant chairs on the beach and watched the full moon. We wanted to make the sunrise, but we didn't make it.
The next day, Bec woke up chipper as can be and went to e-mail a few people around 10:30. I was hungover as all get out and slept in 'till 2:45. Becky made a few French friends, the male type, by the pool and ordered lunch. I was on my death bed. I love my wife.
When I finally recovered, we decided to visit a temple and took a trip into Thong Sala. Bec was enthralled by all the local food vendors and picked out a few snacks. On our way back to the resort, we booked a boat and bus from Koh Phangan all the way back to Bangkok and hit the sack.
