Well we have finally got a chance to catch up on our blog entries having been pretty slack so far...
We left Sydders on the 7th of Feb and I must say were very reluctant to do so, hanging around and working over there for a couple of years was very tempting and we had settled into a comfortable life and met some really nice people.
Anyway we left on the morning that the big bushfires began and were woken up by the smell of the burning with a large smoke cloud hanging over the city. In the following few days we found out that one of the places that we went over Xmas called Kinglake (pictures of us horseriding) was completely devastated by the fires, such a shame we really don´t want to find out more in case the poor old dude who took us around the national park was hurt.
So Fiji, well we finally got there after 3 flights and lots of bother getting Matt onto the plane with the travel agency messing up the spelling of his surname, his name was being announced on tannoys constantly, it would have been hilarious if we weren´t so stressed about getting on the damn plane!
We don´t really have much to report on Fiji, we were only there for 3 nights and the pictures say it all, we caught up on some much needed sleep, lay by the pool relaxing and ate some good food.
It was a shame that we did not have more time as we would have gone from the main island out to one of the smaller islands which are supposed to be beautiful and have some really good snorkelling/diving - maybe next time.
The sad thing about Fiji was that they were really suffering following the floods, the devastation on the roads was terrible and you could see that the water had gotten so high as it had completely wrecked homes and general infrastructure. The people are pretty poor so I think they were pretty desperate for any business they could get.
So we left Fiji for our next adventure...New Zealand here we come...
