Macau---Hong Kong
Well we must apologise for not getting time to update this sooner but we have been on the move alot recently and internet can be hard to find. Still no excuse its not like we are working so here is the story so far
So its coming to the end of our China adventure and we made our way to Macau. This is a small island that is 1hour boat ride from Hong Kong. After we arrived it took 3 hours to get through customs and passport control. Never travel with someone that has a dodgy colombian passport......Oh Gi-ling!!!!!!!!!
We then got taken by several taxi drivers round and round the island as they attempted to find our hotel....This must have been a plan on there part as the island is only small and how many Ritz hotels can there be!!!!!
Macau is China's dirty little secret as the Chinese love to gamble. This place turns over more cash a year than Las Vegas and the big casinos are all here.......MGM, AIG and the rest make it a very colourful place. We ate some lovely local Portugese food as the island was, and is till owned by Portugal and all the signs are in half Chinese and Portugese. We gambled small amounts of cash on the slot machines but all the tables want a minimum of 50 pounds a bet.. We also climbed the Macau tower which is the highest bungy jump in the world if you fancy it... Sadly all three of us did not want to try
We moved on to Hong Kong which was a 1 hour boat ride. This sounds nice but at the time the area was till being battered by the Typhoon that caused so much trouble in the area......Nat did well not being sick as she normally gets ill on boats.
The typhoon and rain is our main memory of Hong Kong....It rained alot and very hard......We did the sights and shopped till we dropped in the markets picking up some handy bits and pieces......On the last day we went upto the vantage point above the city. Its very high up and as it was raining we did not see much so we got a coffee and chatted and as we came to leave the clouds cleared and we got an amazing view of Hong Kong, at last some luck with the weather!!!!
So time came for Gi-ling to leave and it was a very emotional goodbye as we went our seperate ways.
We went to Singapore and stayed at a nice hotel. Not much to report, a lovely city very clean and people are lovely.
Next is Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur. We got a bus to KL and checked into a really dodgy hostel complete with strong smelling weed ( cannabis mum) aroma. We did the sights including the Petronas towers but were not that impressed with KL. Its really bad on the pollution front and more seedy than Singapore and China..Everyone appears to try a rip you off and the bus stationa are funny just dont leave your luggage unattended.
