After Las Vegas our adventure across America began once again on the worst transport known to man, the Greyhound bus. Our first stop was Santa Fe. Downtown was quite nice and had lots of great art galleries if you're into that sort of thing. The next stop was El Paso - right on the Texas/Mexico border. It was a really cool place -very mexican as you can imagine and also had a big art district. We stayed in the first hostel where we were given a host to look after us. Antonio was a cool dude that we spent some time with. Our first night we went with him in a cable car to the top of one of the mountains in the Franklin Ranges. The summit overlooked El Paso and Ciudad Juarez (the neighbouring Mexican town). The next day we went across the border into Mexico. After some shopping in the city market we went to a nice restaurant which Antonio recommended.
From El Paso we again took the Greyhound to San Antonio. We did the riverwalk which is lined with heaps of restaurants, bars and shops. Once we had done that we visited the Alamo which was really interesting. We then spent a couple of nights in Austin. On our last night we managed to see the colony of bats which leave from beneath the Congress Bridge each day at dusk. There were thousands and thousands but as it was cloudy, it was very dark and we could only really see them with the flash of people's cameras.
Our last stop before Florida was Dallas. We stayed in a nice homely hostel just outside town in a place called Irving. Dallas was a great city but very big. We managed to see the JFK sites and took an old 1920s trolley to visit the Newtown and West village areas. From Dallas we flew via Atlanta to Orlando to do Disney World!
