We woke up and the weather was goregous! We couldnt believe our luck! After nearly 2 weeks of rain and storms it was sunny and not a cloud in the sky. This only meant one thing - the boat would definately go!! Yayy! We were picked up at 7.30am, said our goodbyes again to Yuko and we were taken to the pier at Koh Lanta.
The boat left pretty much staright away and within an hour we arrived in Koh Phi Phi. WOW!! It was beautiful. The boat pulled up to the dock and we all jumped off. The water was so clear and blue - like sky blue. We could see hundreds of fish swimming underneath. A thai man from our hotel was waiting on the pier and told us he would take us to our hotel. In Koh Phi Phi, there are no roads, no cars, no motorbikes. The only way around is by foot, bicycle or boat. Our hotel was at the beach round the corner so we had to get a longtail boat there. The thai guy took us to his boat just on the other side of the pier and we both jumped in with our bags. It was surreal, like something off a film, we were in this old traditional boat, sailing along the sea which was deep but so clear you could see right to the bottom. After 5 mins the boat turned to the left and secluded behind a ridge in the island was Long Beach. The boat turned off its engine and we floated towards the shore. We couldnt belive this is where we were staying. the hotel was literally on the beach. As we got closer people staying at the hotel were sitting out having their breakfast at the beach side restaurant. The boat stopped once it reached the sand and we had to jump off into the water and walk up the beach to the hotel reception. We were so excited. However, when we got to the recption they had no record of our booking :( We quickly jumped on their computer and they had emailed us back to say they were fully booked! Nooo!! Luckily they had one "deluxe" room availible and they gave us one for the same price!!. We were showed to our room which was massive!, by far the best accomodation on our whole trip even the balcony was bigger than some of the rooms we'd stayed in and looked right on to beach.
We had no cash on us so we had to get another boat back to the town to get some money out and grab some supplies. a few of the hotel staff jumped in with us to grab some supplies of there own. The town was really cool and quite backwards. It was made up of small little narrow streets with shops and restaurants all along. We got some breakfast in a small cafe, went to the atm and grabbed some bits before getting the boat back. While we were waiting on the pier for the boat, a group of young thai girls came along with a loaf of bread each. We thought they might have been shopping for a hotel they worked in, but they started throwing the bread into the sea and hundreds of fish came flooding to the bread. All different types, they were like dogs fighting haha! Once we were back at the hotel we payed up and went straight onto the beach, it was only 11am! We sunbathed and swam in the sea for the whole day. The sun was so strong and we burned quite a bit!! Oops! We headed back to our room and got showered (in salt water cold shower) and headed down to the restaurant for our tea. It was so romanctic. It was lit with fairy lights and had nice music playing and you could hear the waves right next to you. After our tea we went to the recpetion to see what tours they had to Phi Phi Ley availible for my birthday the next day!! We could hire a speed boat for 1000 baht so we decided we'd do that in the afternoon. We headed for bed!
Happy Birthday!!! Today is my birthday! 23 years old! Jesus!!! Matty woke me up nice and early and we headed down to the beach for our free breakfast. It was so peaceful. We had some nice toast with eggs, fresh fruit, coffee and fruit juice! Yum!! After our brekky we booked our speedboat for 1pm. We went onto the beach and chilled out on a swingy chair for a while letting our breakfast go down, before heading back to our room to get showered and dressed ready for our trip.
We waited on the beach for our boat and it soon pulled up onto our beach. It was a little speedboat with 2 crew on board. We were sharing it with an australian couple who had been travelling for 11 months for their honeymoon - they had been EVERYWHERE! They had 10 days left in Thailand before heading home. Stuart - the australian guy had grown his hair and his beard for the whole 11 months and he really did look like Tom Hanks from Castaway. We got chatting and 5 minutes later the speedboat stopped. The young thai lad said "now.. you swim wid dee shaaarks!" We were like "Yeah yeah ha ha ha" But they were serious. They told us they were safe and showed us a picture. They didnt look safe! haha! Matty was straight in, and I took my time trying to decide if I actually wanted to do it! haha Ar well lets just do it! So I jumped in and we all swam off towards the rocks were the thai men told us the sharks were. Soon enough we spotted one. Iv never been so scared in my life! It was huge and just floated past not even noticing us. I was shouting through my snorkel to Matty and I wouldnt let go of his hand ha! We waited in this bit for a while before braving it and swimming further on. We saw hundreds of fish and we swam for about half an hour before we had to head back. We didnt get to see another shark :( At least we saw one though! Back on the boat the Ozzys told us they saw a jellyfish and only one shark too! I was glad I never saw the jellyfish or I would have freaked out more than I did with the shark!
The boat sped off towards our next stop Monkey Island. We pulled up, it was still on Phi Phi Don but just at the far end of the island. It was beautiful. We walked round into the little coves were there were about 10/15 monkeys jumping around and fighting. There were other boat trips here too and some of the lads from the other trips were messing around with the monkeys but they wernt too impressed. They hissed and showed all there teeth. At one point one of the biggens legged it towards us and we all s*** ourselves! They were very agressive! But saying that im not suprised if every day boat loads of people show up and wind them up! After about 10 minutes and taking some pictures we headed back to the boat. All the monkeys followed everyone towards the see as if to say "yeah thats right - do one!"
Our next stop was Phi Phi Ley Island. This island is a national park, so you can't stay here. It has beautiful coves and beaches. We stopped at Vikings Cave were they showed us there were birds nests made from woven bird spit - which is a local delicassy! birds nest soup Mmm :s. We then went onto another cove were we could jump off and snorkel around the caves. The water was amazing. We followed the thai guy and he showed us all different types of coral. As we got further away from the boat the water got deeper and deeper and reeeeally cold. I saw a squid and freaked. Iv got a phobia of octopus and this is close enough!! I came up out off the water and was freaking out when the ozzy girl asked me if I was ok. I tried to look cool but I said without thinking "Yeah Im fine... I just hate the sea" She looked well confused! hahaha Matty heard me and carried on swimming in embarrasment ha!! We snorkled for a few more minutes before swimming back towards the boat. We were about to get back on when the thai man said he would show us some clown fish. We followed him and after a few minutes I saw a jellyfish. I tried to be cool and tried to show matty but when I looked back it had dissapeared. That was it for me I had tried to be brave but I swam faster than ever back to the boat.. All I was thinking is "Right it'll be great white sharks next" haha Matty and the ozzys carried on swimming while I wimped it out in the boat. After a while everyone was back on the boat and the ozzy guy and Matty started jumping off the back of the boat. Matty told me to jump in, it was my birthday and to suck it up!! So I did.. 3 times haha! Even though i thought the water was jellyfish infested! ha! The guy who was driving the boat was crazy and had been not so subtly having a few "cigarettes" - that smelt weirdly like weed on the boat ha! He thought he was hilarious and through a whole loaf of bread in at us while we were swimming back. We were surrounded by fish it was amaizng!
Our next stop was Maya Bay. Were the beach was filmed. We had no idea what it would be like or how we would get there but a girl in Koh Samui told us you had to do some 'Indiana Jones s***' just to get there. We pulled up to a little cove and the young thai guy (I wish we had got his name) put all our things into a waterproof bag and told us to jump off and follow him. We swam to the shore and he walked under these tiny wholes under the rocks. We had to climb through these tiny spaces in bare feet for about 10 minutes before we came out to a another small cove. We crossed this cove and headed into more caves, it was hilarious. It wouldnt have been to bad but all the other people on different trips and shoes on so they were storming through, our tour man hadnt told us to wear any so we were in bare feet - We looked like old aged pensioners crossing the road!! We finally got into the island and walked through a silent jungle type of place, were there were a few tents set up. We walked for a while and we really felt like we were on the set of the Beach, that bit in the film were they take them to the beach. We ducked through trees and bushes and finally we were here. One of the places we had dreamed about coming when we first started to plan our trip! It was beautiful. A gorgeous white sandy beach secluded by 2 huge mountains and crystal clear water. It was late in the afternoon so the sea didnt look so blue, but we imgained when the sun was shining in the morning it would be even more beautiful!
Our guide told us to relax and we would be here for an hour or two. He wandered off to play some footy with his mates while we took a look around. Our camera battery died! NOOOOO!! The one place it could die and it was here!! I tried to charge the batteries in the sun but Matty laughed thinking I was deluded! haha! We managed to get a few pictures though thankfully! For the next hour we sat on the beach chatting to the Ozzy's sharing stories and hearing about their travels before heading back through the assault course to the boat. Once we were back on the boat we were so lucky, we had just got out in time, the tide came in 2 minutes later and swamped the caves we had just walked through! We headed off back towards Phi Phi Don after an amazing day. We all sat in silence admiring the view. The speedboat stopped in the middle of the ocean while we watched the sun set. We were the only boat in the sea and it was silent. It was one of those moments that we will never forget. The ozzy guy jumped in to the deep sea even after the thai guy told him he wasnt sure if he should - because of sharks! Crazy kid!! We got dropped off at the pier and grabbed some more supplies before all four of us headed back on a longtailboat. We reached our hotel and said goodbye to the Ozzys. Jumped in the shower and headed down for some tea. As it was my birthday we thought we'd splash out and we spent a whopping £10 on a meal!! ha! We had steak mmm!! We had some drinks and we saw a fire show down the beach so we decided to head down there to see what was going on. It was a hotel and the end of Long Beach that was really lively. They had music pumping loud, like we were in town, and there was a fire show. We got a whisky bucket and sat watching the show. After a few hours we were pretty drunk and knackered after our day out so we headed back to our hotel and called it a night. It was by far the best birthday I have ever had!
The next day we spent the day sunbathing and topping up our tans. We also booked another night here we loved it that much. In the afternoon we went into the town and did some shopping for some birthday prezzies :) I got a couple of "bits" as my mum would say! After our shopping spree we went to get a massage. It was a bit weird in Koh Phi Phi. In all the other places in Thailand everyone was sooo friendly and nice and would help you with anything but here, the people were quite rude and didnt want to speak to you or help. Our massage was rubbish and even when we payed the lady didnt even look up or say thankyou, we say thanks and walked out. Not very pleased!! We went and got some tea in a place where Matt had spotted "free spring rolls"!!
That night we had some beers at the hotel and later on we decided to head back to the bar along the beach. It wasnt as busy this time and the group of people we had met the night before told us to join them for a drink. We sat and drank and chatted for hours, there was a mix of people, thais, australians and then a random german man who turned up on his own. "Who vants to heeaur som garman hiip houp????" "Nope!" ha ha ha he was gutted but took a seat and chatted away with us. After a while he started rapping freestyle in German and it was one of the funniest things ever! We then all decided to go swimming in the sea, it was a full moon so the water was clear and the moon made it bright so we could see right to the bottom! It was getting late (well early) it was 5am and we headed back with the german guy who was staying at our hotel. We told the aussie girls we would meet them the next day and go on a boat trip with them. The german guy was nuts he was leaving for Koh Lanta in a few hours and was so drunk! We said goodbye and crashed out in bed.
The next day we were too hungover to do anything! We woke up late and chilled out at the beach restaurant trying to cure our hangover. We headed into the town in the evening and got some tea in the same restaurant as the night before. Liverpool were playing and they had the game on. Homemade Cheeseburgers were on offer too so Matty was in heaven!!! After our tea we headed back and got an early night as we had to be up the next morning to check out and catch our flight to Chiang Mai.
We checked out and got our last longtail boat to the pier waving goodbye to our beautiful hotel :( We were so sad to be leaving. We had a boat booked at 4pm to Phuket to get to Phuket airport for our flight. We arrived at the airport after a one hour boat ride and a short taxi, got some tea and boarded the plane. This would be our last stop in Thailand!
Next stop Chiang Mai!
