We are back, all safe and fully limbed! Fraser island was a really good experience.
On our first day we managed to get stuck in the sand and ended up pushing our 4x4 up a sandy hill which was incredibly tiring in the 35 degree heat! We cooled off in a freshwater lake called lake mckenzie which was amazing. It is meant to be one of the purest lakes in the world. We all felt so clean after swimming in it, it washed off a month and a half's worth of grime!
We spent the next day driving, or being driven, should I say, along the beach. Our driver's didnt really care about how fast they went over pot holes as they sat in the front. The bumps affected the ten of us crammed in the back a lot more! We visited a ship wreck called the wreck of the 'maheno' which was pretty cool but didnt have any signs to give us any information as to why or how it got there, which I found a bit stupid.
Sleeping on the island was much better than I had expected it to be, I slept a full night's sleep every night, despite only having my tent and the sand to lie on. On the last day we went on a massive trek up sand dunes to see the mirage like, Lake Wabby which appeared out of nowhere. The bright green lake looked very strange set against pure white sand dunes.
It rained yesterday which was really awful considering we had no shelter and were trekking through massive amounts of sand that obviously stuck when wet.
We only saw a few dingoes, one snake that slithered past me when we were eating dinner on the first night, a few kookaburas and some monitor lizards. No sharks, thankfully!
Thank you very much for phoning the university Dad, I will ring them as soon as I get back! Happy birthday for saturday, I hope my card gets there in time. I wont be able to ring as I am going to be in the outback on saturday night. Hopefully I will be able to speak to you on the morning of Mum's birthday though as i wil be in Airlie beach by then.
Thank you for the poems! Sorry DanY!!, I will remember to spell your name properly in future! I hope you are all well, take care love Mat x
