Thursday 29th Nov -
We arrived in Xian this morning and were picked up @ the train station by a guy from the hostel. Very nice accomodation so we dumped our bags and took the bus out to see the Terra Cotta Warriors planning only to stay for one night and shoot again the following morning. The warriors were really interesting and there were skinned dogs and cats for sale. They were Alsations so we didn't buy any....too big, Susan was hopin for a Chiwawa scarf but no luck. When we arrive back @ the hostel we asked about bookin our train to Guanzhou, they told us the place was round the corner and if we were fast we might make it. Like lightning we shot off pounding the streets to find this place but when we got there it was already closed. All this smokin and drinkin is having a detrimental effect on our lung capacity. Really p'd off we decide to go for a meal. Got seated and the bleeding chinese staff keep pokin @ my menu tellin me steak, steak maybe pizza. I had had enough and shouted @ her and told her to get out my sight. Funny their english seems to improve somewhat when you get angry at them. She took the hint! Time for a beer.
We decided to stay an extra day and do our laundry and sort our emails etc and have a chill out day. Friday 30th Nov -
Up and did our skanky laundry and took off round the big wall that surround the city, we walked half way and then decided to go and get our ticket - via Starbucks of course for a Toffee Crunch Latte. \we managed to get booked onto our hard sleeper train to Ghanzhou which is 26hrs long and went back to the hostel for an early kip as the train is @ 8am. A big party started downstairs so we were kept up all night and Laney's watch went a bit haywire before bed, but we headed off all the same.
Sat 1st Dec -
Oh b******s - SUSAAAAAN!!! It's ten past 6 and our lift is at 0630, we scrambled out our bunks and zoomed to reception to get the guys. The Bald woke the girl up who was sleepin in reception and asked if we could check out. She looked a little puzzled but took our key and stuff. We asked her the time and she said it was 0500hrs......OOOOPS! We made the most of our time with a rivetting game of chess and a shower. Onboard the train we slept for a few hrs then read our books till tea time. Pot noodle and a fag and back to our tiny bunks to read. The baby in the bunks next to us has now been crying for around 10hrs, and a guy who is in the bunk above Sue has the worst cheezy feet in the world and snores like a hippo (im guessin hippo's snore). Wey Hey another fun night.....oh yeah and we are right next to the toilets too aaaaargh!
Sunday 2nd December -
We arrived in Gunzhou - nobody speaks english and all the signs are in Chinese, we don't have a clue where to go or how to get to Hong Kong. Eventually we find a policeman who can speak basic english and told us East Station, took his word for it and headed to the East Station. Get there and have the same bloody problem, some weirdo keeps starin at us too. After askin about 20 people who don't have a clue what we are saying we see our jackpot. Hey Susan there's a white guy......go go go go! If he hadn't been sitting we would have huckled him to the ground with excitment. He was an Aussie and sent us packin in the right direction, tellin us we were doin a good thing gettin out of Guanzhou. You're tellin me mate!
Finally on civilised transport with people alike and babies in nappys instead of crotchless pants we are en route to the land of King Kong.....so Susan says. That's what they teach you in history at Glennifer!!
