A lovely bright, sunny morning greets us as we hear the town clock chiming 08:00 confirming our new time zone.
Ali goes to wash, and Nick hears "Oh!" from the bathroom. As she put the plug in the sink the waste trap broke clean out of the bottom. We get a couple of visits from locals selling oranges and strawberries as the two Nicks fashion a repair with large plastic washers cut from an empty pork scratching tub.
We dive to Cabanas and find parking at the end of the sea front. There is a raised boardwalk along the quiet estuary, with all sorts of lovely marine smells drifting up as we walk along past the small boats. Beyond the dunes opposite, we can hear crashing, thundering waves. All along the road restaurants and bars are doing good trade with people sitting out in the sun. We find a table at 'The Wine House' and have a nice chat with the English speaking waiter. We choose the set dish at €7.00, which is rice with either sliced pork in mushroom sauce, or grilled fish, and a drink of choice. It's lovely to be sitting out, eating, in such warm sunshine in such a lovely place. Although the waiter tells us in summer we wouldn't see he street for people.
We go on a few miles to Olhao and find space in the aire. It's a short walk into town, past the fishing boats and along the promenade. The town's pedestrian area is pleasant; narrow streets, some with traditional Portuguese patterned pavements, and interesting buildings. A few of the narrowest streets are like souks, with Moorish traders selling leather, scarves and metal lanterns. Other shops specialise in cork products, everything from coasters to lampshades and handbags. It is obviously not a wealthy town judging by all the cheap clothes and shoes on sale.
We head back past the brick pavilion style building with its green domes. Actually it is a collection of bars and restaurants, one of which we stop at to enjoy a glass of red wine as the sun sets behind the masts of the boats in the marina.
Having had a good lunch, we make up a tapas board to pick at this evening, with a drop of wine and some of Nick and Grete's home-made limoncella.
