So back on Hwy 4 on our second full day in South Africa we are better rested and able to tackle the traffic.
The good news is there aren't a lot of cars heading this way. Along both the Number 4 and the Number 49 we had to watch out for cattle, goats and radar traps through the villages. Finally we made it hot and tired to the Bush House.
OK.... I thought the last place was great and it was but here they greeted us with cool wet towels and a cold drink of juice. Last night we had a jacuzzi tub and sauna.... tonight we again have a double jacuzzi tub, king size bed and a view to die for.
Through the window of our room our first sight was a family of about 20 elephants coming for a drink at the water hole. The Lodge grounds are protected by an electric fence. Here, at the water hole, the fence is hidden in a ravine. From the lawn it is only about 100 feet away. So, I'm here to see the elephants and they came to us as if on cue!
The evening game drive was good but the next morning was great.
The other guests left early so we found ourselves alone with our private tour . By the end of the second day we had seen Rhino, giraffe, warthogs, many elephants, impala, zebra, wildabeest, kudu, baboon, scrub hares, leopard, jackal and a group of feasting (very rare) wild dogs and many many many different bird species!
The next day we saw two leopards in a tree feasting on a recent kill as well as all the other animals again.
There isn't as much game here as compared with Kenya and Tanzania but it is a beautiful part of the world. It seems more special somehow when you do see game. Our guide had not seen leopards in two weeks and here we saw three different ones in less than twelve hours.
The food is great, the pool cold, the sun hot and the atmosphere laid back.
There was a bottle of champagne in our room to help us celebrate our 36th anniversary..... does it get any better than that? Well I guess it does when you consider we had the whole place to ourselves for a day after one group of guests left and the others didn't get in until the afternoon before we left. Pretty romantic and very much a beautiful place to remember.
Next we drive to Pliansburg Game Reserve for two nights..... will be there on the 9th and 10th.
