Last two days have been quiet and lazy....lovely actually.
Yesterday we must have had a good nights sleep because we were up, had breaky and in the car by bloody 8:30am!!!! The weather was cloudy and a bit cold, around 19oC with chances of showers. Therefore we decided to do some exploring of the eastern beach of the island and north point. We found the infamous Blue Lagoon, which l had seen on one of Marty's 4WD dvd's and was really looking forward to it, but was a bit deflated when we got there. I thought it would have been blue and dreamy looking, instead it looked swampy and browny. Whether that was because it was overcast, who knows? Hence, we didn't stay long and headed off to check out Honeymoon Bay up the north end of the island. It was beautiful! You walked down this pathway to come into this rounded sand area surrounded with big rocks and then see the ocean. There was a warning sign just before entering to watch out for oil stains on rocks as this area was affected by an oil spill in 2009, you could still see some oil on the rocks after their cleanup. Makes you appreciate what a catastrophe oil spills are by seeing the end result. Anyhow, Marty and the girls played hide and seek in the rocks while l took some pics and then we took off up the hill to cross over to north point. When we got there Boo needed to go wee's and she refused to squat in the bushes so l stripped her bottoms off and off she went in the sea!!! Like always Meg had to do the same, so off she went too. Looked quite funny these two girls running into the water and standing there at water knee height waiting to finish their business!! Some blokes walked past and had a few funny looks as the bare bummed girls ran past them!!! Lol. Anyhow after this we made our way back to camp for lunch. In the afternoon l did some schooling with Boo and then lazed about around the campsite. Marty found some wood people had left behind and decided to have a camp fire that evening. Apparently you have to bring your own wood here or buy it, your not allowed to burn the trees or scrap wood from the island as it is all national park!! We didn't know this till we got here. So then the girls were all excited about the camp fire, their first one on the trip. The three of them got it going whole l read my book then we sat around for hours loving the fire!!
Today we woke all feeling a bit chilled out. The sun was out and the blue skies had returned, yay! Our shorts where back on!!! We had been searching for these two grave sites on the island since we got here and couldnt find them, so Marty got directions when he went to the shops that morning. We went off in search again and found them. There were two graves at this site just off the beach. Two young children, one 11 months and 3 days old who died in 1883, a little boy Wiiliam. The other, a little girl named Dorothy, aged one year old. The headstones were ancient and there was a sadness felt at the site. Don't know how they died, it just states died at sea..... So sad :(
After this we went back to the Bulwer wrecks and hung out there for an hour taking some pics and chilling out watching the girls play. Boo found some sticks and twigs on the beach, turned around to find her lying on her back on the sand under a self made bench press!!! She had put two sticks in the sand, a bit apart then layed another long stick on top of them. Then she made a treadmill and boxed out a tramp...lol!! Meg was then jumping up and down pretending she was on a tramp. That's imagination!!
In the arvo we hung out down the beach, the girls swam (bit cold for Marty and l), Marty fished and l read my book. Had spaghetti on toast for tea, which the girls had been hanging out for and had another early night.
Only two more nights then we head back to the mainland and go to Buddina where we will be staying for a few weeks. Bit thrilled to be catching up with Boof and Nikki, the girls are nearly wetting themselves they're so excited. Hope they have a bath......we all need a good soaking!!!! Lol
