We woke up excited today about our anticipated expedition to 'the tip'.
We rounded everyone up and left around 9:30am on a corrugated dirt road through Bamaga heading towards 'the croc tent'. This us a little souvenir shop in the middle of no where. A young couple own it and they have some really cool stuff for sale such as a cane toad purse and all the usual thongs like stickers amd stubbie holders. After we all got our memorabilia we mossied on towards the tip, our last feat. The road went from bush and dirt back to tropical and narrow, bit slow going but not too bad. We took a left turn to have a look at punsand bay, we couldn't find the road to get to the beach so we just got out for a quick look, divine place. We continued our way and reached the beach of 'the tip'. We all drive out onto the beach where we took the pics of all the cars in the convoy, except for Dale and Kerry's (RIP)! Instead the boys drew an outline in the sand and all the Vaughan's sat down as if the cruiser was there, funny times!!! The decision was to have lunch before heading out to finish our last leg of conquering the tip. We had packed all the leftover food from last nights tea, so again we were feed like kings and our setting was spectacular. We sat on the beach eating our picnic feast, looking out at beautiful blue colored ocean whilst being sheltered from the sun under huge tropical tree's. After lunch we stripped off the kids and they had a dip in the water, everyone relaxing and having laughs together whilst always being on guard for crocs. One disappointing thing about the tip is that it looks just like that in parts. The amount of rubbish there shocked me and l can't believe we want to show case this part pf Australia with little pride. Why can't people just take there rubbish with them? Lazy grots!!!
The time had come for us to conquer our last mission of 'the tip'!! We all got our camera's and water, slapped on the sunscreen and started our 400m walk over a rocky hill towards the mist northern tip of Australia. We had all spaced out in our walk, everyone mixing with one another. Marty and l had a small exchange of words before starting the walk so walked separately cooling off, both not wanting to ruin this unforgettable moment about to happen. After 15 mins of walking over this rocky hill with scattered friendship towers througout and looking out to the ocean with all the surrounding islands, we had made it, to 'the tip of oz'! We all sat around soaking up the surrounding beauty and quietly reliving our triumphs along the way, basking in the achievement of what we had dove together. This was one time Marty and l will never forget!! We all got our pics infront of the sign that rewards your efforts by stating we had made it to the tip. Kerry and Angie even got there t*** out at the tip for a pic, whilst Rod did his famous jump for us all!!! Marty and l had forgotten our earlier disagreement and had a kiss at the tip to smooth things over. After half an hour we turned around and headed back to the cars. I was a little down as l knew that this part of our trip was beginning to end and we would be going our separate ways sooner than later.
We decided to keep the day going as it was only early arvo so we headed for a drive to Somerset Bay. It was a great drive and the boys loved it as there was a bit of beach driving. We cracked some beers and had sone wine to celebrate the day as well!!! When we arrived at Somerset Bay it was just like a tropical oasis!!! The sand was white and fine and as always the water looked inviting and tempted us, but this time we just looked from shore.
On our way back we called thru Bamaga to restock the grog. Up here you are only one slab of either mixed spirits or beer and one cask of wine per vehicle. You can't have beer plus spirits and there are no bottles!! No bottles of beer, wine or spirits!! If caught with a bottle of spirit you face huge fines or jail!! Their really strict up here with all that!!
Anyway we headed back to camp a bit tired as hadn't anticipated how big of a day it was going to be, arriving back at 7pm. Marty and l heated up some left over spag Bol and did toasted cheese jaffals for tea. Got the girls to bed by 9pm and then we all sat around the camp fire for a while having a few drinks!!
Had been a massive couple of days!!! Can't believe we made it up here without being scaived too bad. Marty got the Nissan a little wet, broke an exhaust clamp, broke the front sway bar (which Marty says apparently won't matter, so l think what's the point of them but anyway!) and we had to get a new battery. So all in all not too bad, could have been worse butter remember we have to get back down yet!!! Lol
