Next stop on the trip was Queenstown, everybody told me that Queenstown was the place to be in New Zealand. It has great nature, good shops, but also awesome nightlife. And then I even forgot to mention Fergburger. Fergburger is a hamburger restaurant and is completely packed whole day long. And for a good reason, the burgers are amazing! Tommy had 7 burgers in 4 days, that is an indication how good those burgers are.
But first we had a stop at the AJ Hackett bungyjump. AJ Hackett is the founder of the bungyjump and we got the opportunity to jump at the first original bungyjump spot, the Karawakau bridge. I signed up and closed the deal. It was certainly cool, but I have to admit that the skydiving was certainly better! The pictures looked awesome though and thus I bought the pictures.
We arrived in Queenstown and we saw the typical New Zealand landscape again, a town located at a beautiful lake and surrounded by mountains. I wonder whether these landscapes ever get boring. I shared a room with the Irish couple, David and Maura, the Italians Christian and Cinzia and the English Samantha. Great people in a comfortable room, we were ready for Queenstown! The first night we took it easy because the next day it would be St. Patricks day, the Irish feast day. On st. Patricks day we started at 1.30 pm with a fergburger and after that we immediately went to the Irish bar. Everybody was dressed in green and/or with Irish colours. We had a great time and partied on until late. The highlight of the evening was that my Danish friend, Morten, was told that there was a dressing competition that night and that he would get free drinks if he dressed himself up. After spending 2 hours in a chicken suit he found out that there was no dressing competition at all. It was hilarious. In the afternoon I also met Boyd. Boyd is the first person that I have met whom I know from home. The next day everybody was hung over and I think David and Maura went out of their bed for 10 minutes max during the complete day. Softies... But you know I like you ;) A lot of people from the previous stray bus arrived this day, so it was nice catching up again. Had some good fun with the Irish boys, Boyd and Katharina.
We had to finish the last day in Queenstown in typical Queenstown style. So in the evening we ate a fergburger and went out again. Laura had joined us from the south again and so we had to celebrate the reunion. In the afternoon Boyd, Bart, 2 girls, and I, hiked up the mountain of Queenstown to enjoy the beautiful view over the town and the lake from there.
The next day we were only with 4 people of the original Stray group left, Maura, David, Laura and me. We were in a bus with a lot of new people again and unfortunately we left a lot of nice people behind. Boyd was also on the same bus now and we would travel the last part of New Zealand together.
The day after we went to Mount Cook. We had a beautiful view from our balcony, but we were too lazy to do the hike of 3 hours (I think the night before had something to do with that). So we just relaxed.
Another early busride at 7 am and this time the destination was Rangitata. There was not so much to do over there, so Boyd and I played some football with David and after that I ran with Laura and Chloe from England. The next day we were dropped at the Christchurch airport and unfortunately I had to leave the last people from the Stray bus behind. I had a great time with you all and good luck with your further travels and ambitions in life!!
Boyd and I continued to our hostel in Christchurch, Christchurch was hit by an earthquake 2 years ago and is still recovering. The shops are now located in containers and a big part of the heart of the city is still closed. The last night in Christchurch we went to the rugby game, Crusaders vs the Kings. It was cool to experience the national sport of New Zealand. Definitely not a sport for softies. I would love to see C. Ronaldo getting beaten up in a rugby game. The next day our ways would part. Boyd went to Auckland for 3 days before flying back to Australia to continue his working holiday. I flew to Fiji, where I will stay for 7 days. And oh yea, it's my birthday today.
