We have just got back from our first excursion, the three day Uluru Explorer! With a 6am start on the first day to join a bus full of people with aboriginal music playing we set off on our trip. The first stop at a camel farm where we had a camel ride (this was not comfy!). Finally we arrived at our camp with tents around a camp fire and a small food & eating area. We then set off to Kata Tjuta and hiked round the valley of the winds - little did we know (we couldnt have read about the tour properly) this was the start to a lot of hiking!!!! After we headed to Uluru for sunset with sparkling wine. The night ended with a BBQ and marshmallows around the camp fire where we got to eat a kangeroo before we saw one and camel sausages - the beef steak was the nicest! Round the camp fire we got to know the rest of the group Cardi our tour guide, a couple from Switzerland (including the romantic Paulo the salsa dancer (he was from Scilly)), a lady on her own from Switzerland, the Belgium contingent, USA and an Australian couple on their 10 year anniversary and Ann from England (an eccentric ex French teacher who loved tea, rock salsa, fossils, volcanos and what she thought was naughty jokes!) The next moring a 5:30am rise for the base walk at Uluru which was freezing cold until the sun rose! This was followed by a tour with Wally our aboriginal guide (which was a rare experience for people visiting the rock). After a long afternoon of driving we got to Kings Canyon where we had thai curry (we didn't go hungry) and more story telling round the campfire. Tonight we slept in a swag under the stars - you could see everything including the milky way! Another cold night but the swag was surprisingly warm. The next morning at 6am a walk at Kings Canyon where we sat in the Garden of Eden eating brunch bars. Finally it was time to head back to Alice Springs where we all met to say goodbye over a meal in Annies Place. At the end of the night it was us the Swiss couple (Paulo & Daria) and Ann left, where she then got them up salsa dancing and had a go herself! Martin and Paulo had to be torn away from each other after a heart to heart in the toilets!!!! Today we head to Cairns and spend the rest of today seeing the local sites in Alice - Flying Doctors Museum and Croc Farm! Speak Soon....
