Willkommen Neu Seeland,
Auckland & Kerikeri (2.11-3.11)
Bay of Island (4.11-5.11)
Our 1-day overnight cruise started in Pahia with the boat "The Rock". The weather was good but it got cold in the evening. After a 2 hours boat ride we did some fishing and I was lucky to catch a fish but I dindn't know I had to eat the fishheart. At around 10 pm we went for a night kajak tour which was very nice. A pitty we didn't have a clear night since we than would have seen many shooting stars. After getting back from the kajak trip I jumped into the water, it was cold but once you get used to it it was alright. After drying up infront of the wood oven we had dinner. My fish got served as a sushi dish! Than we stayed up in front of the wood oven and talked untill it was bedtime...
In the morning after having a morning swim we had some breackfast. We took the boat to a bay and went to the beach were we played some rugby. We had our lunch at the beach and while heading back to Pahia we saw some dolphins in the water. Unluckily they did not go that close to our boat but we saw some!
Kauri Forest (5.11)
We drove from Pahia to Dragaville through the Kauri Forest. We sawthe big tree ' Tane Mahuta" which is 51.5 m high and has a girth of amazing 13.8 m. Its age is estimated 2000 years. It was a really nice drive on narrow roads and we reach Dragaville pretty tired. Got set up at the hostel and went for some Thai food which was nice.
Rotorua (6.11.-7.1)
Arrived Rotorua in the evening and went to a spa which was full of asian people. The spa water contained lots of sulfur which we were told makes the muscle grow so we stayed very long in the water....
The next day we went to Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland. Here we saw the famous Lady Knox geyser and lots of stinking bubbling sulfur pools. After a long stay we drove on the Turangi were the Tongariro Crossing waited for us.
Tongariro Crossing (8.11-9.11)
We started early in the morning first with the car to a car park and than we the bus, where Timo noticed that he forgot to put on his hiking boots so he had to make the crossing with normal jogging shoes, to the beginning of the track. We started walking with blue sky and lots of sun. After getting to the direction sign we decide to climb the Mt. Ngauruhoe (2291m). It was a very hard climb around 2 hours and at the top it was very very windy. But for sure it was worth it! After climbing down we found back to the track although the clouds got very thick. We crossed snow filled paths and got pretty wet. At last we got to the Blue Lake and the Emerald Lakes. Luckily the clouds disappeared and we could take our pictures before the fog came back. Since we ran out of water at the peak of Mt. Ngauruhoe we decided not to go to the Tongariro summit, since it is lower the the one we climbed. We reached the car park were we had left the car after 9,5 hours and were very happy to get a warm shower at the hostel.
