Hi, Been a while since we updated our blog. We have been a week in Laos now and its brilliant - everyone is so friendly and go out of their way to make it enjoyable. The locals are fab, children are great, speak very good english. The first 5 days, we spent in Vietianne, was a lovely city, but I spent most of the 5 days in bed as I was very sick - we have started our malaria tablets and Martin is having no side affects, and typically im having loads. Now in Vang Vieng, I am not too bad, still not brilliant. Vang Vieng is a really beautiful village, massive mountains and rivers. We spent one day trekking though the villages and jungles, we were thick with mud and had to brave all the insects and massive birds!! IT rained constantly while trekking, so we were soaked right through but made it much more exciting. We entered 3 different caves, one of which was deep in the ground and pitch black, we all had head torches on and went in quite far - quite scary!! We then had dinner on the river which was lovely and then took a 14km kayak down the river back to the town. Because it had been raining for 24 hours the river was really high and the rapids where really strong. We managed to stay in our kayak but I didnt enjoy the rapids! Martin loved it. Got hit by trees and branches a few times too - kept taking the wrong route!!
Half way down the river there were rows of bars, with the staff throwing ropes to pull you in to have a drink. Never seen anything like it. It was packed with tourists. They had bars, Zip wires, mud volleyball, mud tug of war - it was amazing, you could have a drink then get back in your kayak or tube and head to the next bar - river pub crawl. Can see that Vang Vieng will be the new place to come for students in the next few years!!
Very cheap in Laos, we have a nice ensuite bungalow for 5pound a night and have finally managed to get all our clothes washed and dryed for 3pounds - very happy!! Thinking of heading into Luang Probang tomorrow - maybe price up the elephants!! Cant wait! Laos is beautiful and we dont want to leave already!! Definatley a place to come.
Hope everyone is well, lovely to hear all your messages. xx
