i've safely made it to Reykjavik ( gosh, forgive my ignorant spelling, this is easily the most confusing language i've ever come across) after boarding a 3 hour flight out of amsterdam on which I was easily the shortest person on board. Everybody, including the two year old kid sitting in the row ahead of me, I'm sure wore a larger shoe size than mine.
I am also pretty sure that considering the 'blonde factor' on board, in Iceland I'm considered black and exotic thats a nice change from Milan's scene!!!
My three hours on board were spent squished between the plane's window and a fat drunk man, who smellt heavily like cheap wine, kept yelling in God forsaken language ( which I later came to realise was scottish) and whom given the amount of fingers up his nose at all times must be into spelunking, which thankfully forced me to get over my fear of flying and gave me a chance to enjoy the spectacular cloud formations up north.
The combination of on board wifi and unusual cloudy effects turned me into an insta-b**** so, anyone following my account please accept my apologies fort the never ending stream of mid-sky pics..all worth it!
As you may know, during summer months Iceland enjoys about 20 hours of sunshine a day, making landing at 1 am in sunshine a spectacular and sunglass demanding experience!
Due to the sulphuric gasses in the air ( or at least i'm hoping thats the reason) everything, including tap waster tends to smell a little life farts, which is a little alarming. I am, in fact, having a tough time adjusting and trying to fight the urge to check my soles for stuff I may have stepped in.
Weather is lovely and sunny but effing windy and freezing cold, so the reasoning behind open air verandas with spinning ceiling fans eludes me but then again I am mediterranean and warm blooded, so the likelyhood of me embracing this glacial lifestyle is slim.
I've rented a car and am off exploring for the day in the hopes that none of the happy-go-lucky volcanoes on the island have a go at my survival.
Pics to come
