We knew how expensive Singapore was before we arrived so we opted to get the tube to the backpacker area of Little India. Naively I thought that was just a name but we were met by a network of Indian restaurants, shops and jewelers. We got a bed in a hostel for an extortionate £10 a night and went for some lunch - Indian obviously.
That night we met up with a scottish guy that we had met a few times through Vietnam who was visiting a friend who lives there and we went for dinner and some drinks at Clarke Quay. We found an irish bar and had some good old western food, knowing that the next 2 months would consist of mainly rice and fish! They also sold cider... Strongbow cider... At £7.50 a pint! We went to a few more bars and onto a shisha cafe before getting the last train back.
The next day we just lay around the hostel watching films until we were too late to get the train to the airport and had to take a taxi.
Singapore was an amazing place and it was a shame that we only had 24 hours there. We have both agreed that we will go back after the Philippines, even at £15 a round!
