So the Hughes bros first trip to Europe with each other! Tonight we went to a most peculiar restaurant called Chartiers. We waited 1/2hr to get In and then emerged into what can only be described as the 1900's. The waiters were dressed top to toe in dated black/white uniforms. There were luggage hangers from the ceiling and old dusty chandeliers. Our server hurriedly ushered us to a table for four and sat us beside a young couple from Norway. We each looked at each other slightly confused appraising our foe but accepting that this was part of the deal. How unbritish! Do they nit know one cannot share a table and converse with another whilst commencing in dining formalities. It then became a stand off to see who could order first.
The opposition lay down the opening gambit of garlic snails and a small bottle of red, we then countered with two streak au poivres with frites naturally with a large bottle of red. Our orders we accordingly written down on the corner of our plastic tables cloths. Ignoring the extreme temptation to remove items from our bill or even better add a few bottles of wine to theirs we ate in good spirits starving after the wait enjoying fine food, lethargic service and mediocre wine, however the company of one Master P Hughes was delecticious!
