Day 83. Mexico.
Headed out for an explore around Mexico City this morning (see photos). The chaotic traffic of yesterday was much less chaotic today, as many of the streets are closed on Sunday mornings and used for cycling and roller-skating. Seemed to be an excellent idea and certainly created a more relaxed atmosphere. However, the chaos returned in the afternoon, with the shopping streets all jammed full of people. Britain were playing in the bronze place match in the Archery Championships, so we went and watched them beat Japan, before our Mexican Night Out tour began. It was certainly an interesting evening. It started with a visit to the Lucha libre (aka Mexican wrestling) - cartoon fights in tights, accompanied by lots of screaming and shouting. We then headed for the Plaza Garibaldi for a lesson in how to drink tequila and mezcal, and then continued to a cantina (Mexican bar) for dinner, accompanied by a mariachi band. For 125 pesos (~£6) they will serenade you while you eat; and often follow people around for the whole evening. Makes it difficult to have any conversation, but creates a lively, entertaining atmosphere.
