Day 36. Cascade (Colorado Springs), Colorado.
Travelled 200 miles north-east today to Colorado Springs, via the 160 and I25. Then joined the 165 through the mountains, which was a great, twisty motorcycling road. The scenery here was more alpine than the arid Spanish-like mountains of New Mexico.
Stopped halfway to visit Bishop's Castle, a very unusual and scary building. Neither of us was brave enough to climb to the very top via the rickety iron stairway. The 'castle' has been built by one man, by hand over the last 35 years; without any plans or adherence to building regulations - and is still on-going. The owner, Mr Bishop, is a very eccentric, anti-establishment individual. He was working there today, and was in full rant mode!
We are staying tonight at the Adobe Inn at the foot of Pikes Peak. It's our poshest place so far, and even has a kettle to make tea!
The weather has actually been slightly chilly today, for the first time. So far we've been really lucky weather wise - only two hours of rain and temperatures mainly between 25 and 32C (rather than the 40C temperatures which can occur).
