Day 72. San Francisco, California.
Started the day off with a trip through downtown San Francisco to drop the bikes off for their latest set of running repairs. New front tyre for Jane. New battery (3rd), new front tyre (2nd), and new chain set for Mark. While that lot was being done we headed to Pier 39 for brunch and to rent some bikes (pedal power this time). We headed over the Golden Gate Bridge and stopped off in Sausalito, Mill Valley (to see the giant redwoods) and Tiburon. Overall distance was around 20 miles but we could feel that we were out of practice! From there it was back to San Fran on the ferry and then a rush back through the town at rush hour to get the bikes. You can see from the photo that the smoke is still there and it tends to make the day seem like sunset when it gets bad. Despite being 15 mins late the motorcycle shop stayed open for us (perhaps because one of the mechanics grew up in Leatherhead)! It was then a case of retracing our steps to get back to the hotel. Luckily the drivers here were all incredibly polite during rush hour and we got back far easier and quicker than we had feared.
