Hey,
Arrived in Cambodia safely after a fairly lengthy journey from Bangkok. The Thai-Cambodian border was an experience only taking 2 1/2 hours in total in 34 degrees heat. Once on the other side the journey to Siem Reap was very bumpy, on a road best described as a dirt track. Although every so often they were building random bridges that involved a 'detour' just around the bridge. Got up early (before dawn) to see the temples in Angkor Wat, and watched the sunrise over the main temple. The buildings were wonderful and spent the whole day there with a guide. The guide interpretation of other races was something to say the least (he said that he couldn't tell us all apart because we had white faces!)
The following day we went to the floating village up in the north of Cambodia. It is quite a village more thousands and thousands of people living on houses built on stilts over the lake now that the monsoon rains have raised the water level. After that we headed to another town called Kampunchang, which is along the Mekong river. It was quite nice to just relax. Although had several photos taken of us as we were white. A short cycle along the river to a small village, which just showed how poor the people are here (over 50% of the population live on a $1 a day!).
Off to a homestay tonight, so no air conditioning or electricity this evening, but will be going to the beach tomorrow for some chilled time. Will load some pictures once I have a better connection.
