After 3 hours sleep and a hangover that would stop a dinosaur we took the 12hour flight Hong Kong. We flew Cathy Pacific, the flight was comfortable and the movies were good. The only thing i would say is wear the support socks! My feet looked like they were going to burst like water ballons.
We arrived in Hong Kong airport about 7.30am. The airport and customs had to be the most simple thing ever. Everything is clearly marked in english and even in my still slightly drunk state i knew exactly where i was heading.
We stayed at The Eton Hotel which luckly was air conditioned. The humidity in Hong Kong was about 80% the other 20% i'm sure was just exhaust fumes. The Eton is a beautiful hotel and very affordable. I would recommend it to anyone on a stop over. Its in prime location for the city, street markets and the boats.
We only had a short time to spend in Hong Kong so tried to do as much as possible. We walked through the surprisingly quite streets and stopped in this tiny dim-sum restaurant for lunch. Amazing! Then we carried on and took the ferry over to Hong Kong Island. The city from the water looked better in front of my eyes than any picture i'd seen. We sat and drank the most expensive Kronemburg i've ordered. Then the jetlag set in mixed with the stifling heat and it was ready for a nap.
We woke about 6pm had a bottle of Champange the hotel had kindly put in our room to congratulate our wedding and headed out to dinner. We got a taxi to take us to the cheapest sushi bar in the city. When we got there all the roads had been closed for the night markets and i suddenly found the entire Hong Kong population. The lights were so bright i needed sunglasses to be able to walk down the street. We found the restaurant and proceeded to eat our wieght in sushi, only problem being is that the stools are obviously made for vertically challenged something that i am not!!
When we came out of the restaurant we tried to find the night food market (yes food is pretty much all we thought about) but ended up getting lost in the maze of streets and had to get a taxi to take us back to our hotel, which ended up being no more than a 3 minute walk away.
