Travelled from Florence (Firenze) today. The country side was fill off crops but mainly sunflowers. Drove to Orvieto for lunch, had time for another ABC moment in the local duomo but it was breath taking, very well decorated. Then had lunch, bludged some cash off Mike and Jemma as money machine wouldn't work - but that's Italy for you. Went on funicular to get to the village as it's on top of a hill. Then on to Rome, checked in and Debbie had the brilliant idea that we tackle the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps in the arvo before we meet for group dinner. So we jumped on the local underground service, were quite apprehensive about pick pockets after extensive warning and advice from Susan, our tour guide, but we found it to be cleaner, cooler and better than the Paris system. Saw the sites, very crowded and hot but we knew it was better doing it today while fresh than tomorrow when we would be tired and hot (how true it was). Finally got some money out and then met 10 new arrivals to the tour. Had group dinner of salad, pizza and wine. Pizza's aren't like what we used to, very sparse toppings. Wine was great, light and not very alcoholy. Finished off with a quick stop a gelaterria on way home and straight off to bed at 10pm.
