Well, what can I say? I am totally loving Oklahoma! After a relaxing couple of days by the pool in OKC, we left at 7 this morning to try and beat the heat. It was 84 when we left and over 100 by ten o'clock.
Since the interstate in Okie is mostly tollroad we drove Route 66 most of the way and saw some cool stuff. Quaint little towns, a field of emus and a giant fibreglass blue whale. Passed through Tulsa in about 24 minutes and reached Miami around half 12. Now this is obviously not Florida. The Miami in OK is pronounced my-am-uh. Go figure.
It turns out they were having their hottest day since 1923 so we were pretty beat. We found an Econolodge with a pool and were soaking in the cool waters in superfast time.
Now the best thing about this town is that everyone is soooooo friendly. This evening we were wandering up main street taking a few snaps. A guy got out of his car and asked where we were from, and got chatting. Turned out he was the guide from the world famous Coleman Theatre. Although it was 7.30 on a Monday night he offered to open up and gave us a private tour of this stunning theatre which was once host to Bing Crosby, Al Jolsen, Cary Grant, Doris Day and many more. He then gave us a lift back to the hotel since it was so hot. He just loved his hometown and wanted to show it off. Larry, you are a star! Thank you Oklahoma.
