Welcome to Xi'an,
We took the night train from Beijing and arrived in Xi'an (pronunced Shee'ann) 11hours later. I could easily live here it is the best place I've been so far. Our dorm beds are 3pound each and each night we can eat for 2pound each including beer! The atmosphere is even more relaxed than Beijing. We have made more friends here than anywhere else.
Xi'an has the oldest city wall in China, its 10miles so me, Laura and our friend Stuart hired some bikes (older than the wall we think) and cycled around! The next day we went to see the Terracotta Warriors, which for a geeky history boff like me was really good and was the main reason we came here anyway. We have been out drinking everynight and spend around 6pound between us in the process, We been jumping on the local buses going anywhere in the city for 10p each sometimes 5p!
The food is really nice, we have been walking into restaurants (more like peoples kitchens) where there is no sign of western culture or language and just walking around pointing at what we think looks nice and then not asking what it is (probably best)
We've also wandered around the markets in the muslim quarter haggling to the point of frustration which is so fun.
