Boa tarde everybody!
After an exhausting journey north out of Rio (18hrs!) we finally arrived in Porto Seguro. From here it was a short hop and skip via a taxi (4 in the back!) and a ferry to our final destination, Arraial D´ajuda!
We found our Pousada quickly thanks to an email from our host, Derek the Dutchman, which was then forwwarded via text from Pa Gates! (much appreciated!). Our hotel (pousada) is beach front, the photos tell all! Derek was quick to introduce himself and couldn´t have made us feel more welcome. We intended to stay 3 nights only but very quickly decided that this wouldn´t be enough...we finally decided on 6 nights!!
The days have been filled, if you can call it that, with swimming, sleeping, reading and drinking (but only from 4 onwards, you have to have some structure!) thanks to our wonderful barman Edu!
It took us 4 days to realise that we had infact moved timezones from Rio, and were an hour ahead of the locals. This eventual penny dropping explained many things, including the strange looks from the kitchen staff when we turned up for an 8am breakfast at 7am and it wasn´t ready! It also explained why when Jamie and I turned up at the local waterpark (big kids!) we were the only people there, including staff, barring a very keen young boy!
The local town is a fantastic little holiday resort for the Brazilians and Argentines, and hosts many restaurants and bars. In the evening small cocktail stands set up, selling rather potent fresh juice and spirits which have been hard to resist!
We made a small trip out one day to a neighbouring town, Trancoso, which was a 45min bus ride. A very cute little town atop a cliff overlooking the beach, very low key, very local...they even have an australian owned bar...typical!
All in all 6 days of relaxation has been just what we needed leading up to the chaos that will await us for the carnival in Salvador! Another night bus tonight, but thankfully it is only 11hrs...we can do that on our heads by now...
Speak to you all after Salvador!
