Got up reasonably early as the hostel serve free breakfast between 6.30 and 8.30am..what silly hours!! Hmmmm!! We had to make the most of it as it was free, so made it down about 8.15am! Once we had got ourselves together we set off to see the space needle! Was quite cloudy to start with so we kept our fingers crossed that it would clear by the time we got up there! We had a mooch about on the way, stopping to look at different things, hoping to find the original starbucks etc! We bought tickets to see baseball tomorrow evening as the season ends on Sunday so it was our only chance to watch it..and the stadium is close to our hostel!
When we got to the needle, the clouds still hadn’t cleared so we explored the area surrounding it. There were some interesting shaped buildings including the science fiction museum, see the pics! It was a nice area to walk around but there didn’t seem to be much happening, perhaps because it was a week day. We went over to Lake Union to allow the clouds some more time and eyed up all the boats, decided what ours will look like when we get it!! We had to get a starbucks in Seattle so decided that this was the time as we needed warming up! There are literally hundreds here! Every block must have at least 2! The lake itself was nice to see, but the areas surrounding were not so attractive. Most lakes have a path around them, yet this didn’t and it was a struggle to get to the edge! After some time, we gave in and decided that the space needle had to be done, with clouds included! The views were impressive, as expected! We could see out to Lake Washington and Puget sound and could just about make out Mount Ranier. There was no glass floor again..woohoo..Mark was a little disappointed!
From the space needle we went down to the waterfront and walked along to the Pike Place Market which is a huge old market which has been around since 1907! There was some lovely things for sale, including lots of glass balls which Lucy would have liked! They also had fresh flowers that were so unlike the ones at home! These were really brightly coloured and smelt gorgeous! Very eye catching..shame I haven’t got room in the hostel for them! The original starbucks is located by the market, and we couldn’t pass by without stopping! We only had a smoothie, but it’s still something!
It was drizzling with rain, getting cold and we were getting hungry so we made our way back to the hostel, weaving through the streets to ensure we could see the different buildings and sights!
I’ve had a bad back today, think it’s from carrying my bag yesterday, humf! Mark is in desperate need of a hair cut but refuses to have it done as the places are too posh, he reckons! I can just imagine him growing it long and wearing a hat…I hope not!!
Planning to go to the museum of flight tomorrow, they have Concorde there and also flight simulators..including one which lands on the moon! A little excited to say the least! Oh and mother..they have spitfires too! Will take a photo for you!
Have just cooked dinner, was only stir fry but some man was very impressed! He didn’t say it to us, but we could hear him say that our dinner smelt delicious and that we must know how to cook so had to be European! Hmmmm… take note mother..I can cook!
